    Which would you chose: 6625 (15.4") or 6224 (14.1")?

Given the imminent announcements for the 6625 (15") and the 6224 (14") Santa Rosa laptops by Zepto, I thought it might be interesting to see which of the two options people were more interested in.

I'm going for the 14" myself - the portability coupled with the 8600 and the great resolution for a 14" laptop are all very attractive.

    Petrov.

PS: Excuse the typo in the title.

I can't get one in the US, but definitely the 14" is more interesting. It offers similar specs in a smaller and lighter package.

Ah, the agony of choice. It will be the 6224W for me since I am trying to keep the weight of my bag down. Also, I think the 6224W spec is truly special while the 6625W will have some competition.

As to waiting for a white 14" model, I am not sure that I would trust myself to keep it clean. Also, I think the "white fad" will pass and in a year or so the laptop will just look dated. All IMHO of course....

If I buy a Zepto, it'll be my first. I've owned only Dell laptops before, but this seems to be a better choice at the moment. Of course I am disappointed about the lack of an HDMI or even a DVI-D port since I am buying with the intention of connecting it to an LCD when it's home.
Either way, I'm waiting for the 6324 and I hope Asus or Dell don't release something that'll tempt me away in the meantime. :)

I must say that I do find these new Santa Rosa / DX10 laptops very tempting, might sell my laptop towards the autumn and pick up a Zepto instead.

I would probably pick the 6625 version due to it having a higher resolution and the difference in weight is only 0.35kg (2.35kg versus 2.70kg (~5.2lbs and 6lbs for our imperial friends)). I have got a 1440x900 resolution on my current laptop (Fujitsu-Siemens Xi1546), and sometimes do find that I would have liked a WSXGA resolution instead since you can have two ~fullsized windows next to each other :)

    My two cents ^^

    Cheers,

Can anyone who buys either of the two new laptops do a quick review when you get it? I really wanna know heat and benchmarks!

edit: i voted 14" as i was waiting for asus W3 w/ santa rosa but they discontunied that and the high end A8's arent available in the UK :(

edit2: disappointed that 6224 has matte screen!

For parking mostly on a desk, and maybe with an extra screen attached: the 6625WD. I've heard it'll have HDMi later this summer, so no connectivity worries then...

For parking on the top of my lap: the 6224W (or 6024W). Still a heavy machine (having a 12" 1.7 kg atm), but also still portable enough for most travels except walking in the mountains.

    Matte/anti-glare: yes please. :)

i am still undecided, the 6224 looks nicer i think, but i only move my notebook around the house, not really out and about so i should probably opt for the 6625. To people looking at the 6625 currently are you not tempted by Asus? G1S or V1 JP? i supppose it all comes down to price an Zepto are likely to be cheapest.

Tough choice.. I really want the bigger screen and higher resolution of the 6625 but on the other hand the grey keyboard looks really awful. Like knives in my eyes it is! The 6224 looks real slick with it's black keyboard

I choose the 6224W because its smaller and lighter but i agree that the older all black models look nicer. I would also like a white keyboard with blue or red backlight.

In my experience disassembling a laptop is quite easy if you no how to do it. Unfortunately you probably wont know how to do it until you’ve already done it and broken something.

Which of the two has a glossy screen? Is it both?

I think I remember hearing that the 15.4 has a glare screen since Samsung stopped making mattes of the size. Rene or someone, is there any possiblity of a matte screen becoming an option in the future?

Also, can you get a TV Tuner for the 14.1? It's not listed as an option.

But I have noticed the UK website is getting sorted out, which is good to see!

You people chosing 6224WD over 6625, are you going to use the laptop for gaming without conecting a bigger screen?

I´m just curious. Seems like alot of you chose the 14" one because of the all black incl the keyboard :) and the fact that it´s smaller.

I, myself will use my laptop for gaming so I´ll go for the 6625 because I won´t have the possibility to connect another screen. The grey keyboard doesn´t bother me at all.

I ordered the 6224 and will use it for gaming. I wanted a mobile gaming solution, so i went as small as possible with the powerful 8600GT. I have a 17" DTR too, but its not mobile really.

Well, I have a 17" laptop for when I'm sitting at home in one spot. but I often like to take the laptop onto the patio, or to my gf's house or when im travelling - and when I want real mobility, that's when I want to use the 14.1" for gaming. Mind you, the gaming I play these days is mainly LoTRO, Civ4, strategy/rts/rpg games, not BF2142 and competitive fps, etc (those days are behind me).

Hm, ok, maybe you should make it clear on the website? Because at the moment it implies that it is matte.

Also, do they 14 and 15 inch models both have the same GPU?

Because the main reason I originally wanted a 6615 a while ago was for the matte screen, and when the 6625 was announced as having the glare screen I was pretty disappointed. I must say that if Zepto in the nearish future managed to offer a Matte screen for it, I would buy the computer in an instant.

But I may get the 14'' model - is that supposed to have the option of a TV Tuner? Because that is a main thing I want.

Also, if anyone here owns the 6625, how annoying is the glare screen on it? My current laptop has a glare screen and it is terrible, I would not want to use one like it again.

    yep 14" 6224w and 15" 6625wd both have same gpu, 512mb 8600GT.

they say 6225wd is glossy, but theres this protect film thingy from shinza...well its suppose to protect the screen but u can choose to have it in a matte or glossy finish...whack that onto the screen and maybe it has some type of transformation effect? the actual screen would still be glossy though, but with the matte film maybe gets rid of the glare? that product is here..im also gunna buy the zeroshock III as that looks promising.

the only thing is given the acutal viewing screen measure zeptoUK has posted...this film is just abit smaller then the screen , like 1mm off so it may forrm a slim border. but if ur getting the 6224 its fine just trim it down to size.

6224w aint got tv tuner option, 6625wd does as a built in (internal) as an option (like 140buck more or somthing)... but i suppose u can just buy a usb 1.

..my pc is 8 years old, i use a crt monitor so i really cant tell the difference between a matte and glossy aside from compariative pics on the net..so i guess either 1 would be better den what i got.

    Excellent, thanks!

That difference shouldn't matter, if it's only 1 mm. Although if there was a 17'' version that would be better because I could trim it down. But all the other anti-glare sheets have had privacy guard which I don't want.

Oh and one more question to Rene or ZeptoUK, I read on a review site that Zepto will be getting rid of the S-Vid port in favour of HDMI. When will this happen, and when it has been replaced, how will you be able to connect the laptop to an SDTV?

Oh and does the 6625 have DVI already?

mmm dunno if the film i was talking about is an anti-glare sheet...

it mostly describes it as a protective film from dust, scratches, etc.

BUT is does say UV filtration..and comes in a matte or glossy finish (extra 5 bucks for glossy). so yea.

So are you going to order this?

6224 has a glare type antireflection display
6625 has a glare type display

But if you ask it should be possible to get the 6625 with an antireflection film
this will cost 115€ and you'll loose to give the book beck in the first 14 days

and a black keyboard for the 6625 should be available in the future

In Germany (not sure about other countries) you have the right to return all goods you order online with in 14 days and get a full refund. If you ask them to put on the antireflective film then they are customizing it to your needs and you lose the right to return it with in 14 days because it would make it much harder to sell your returned book to someone else.

I have ordered a 6324W which I believe is just a white version of the 6224.

I was considering the 6625W because of the increased resolution but I would prefer my notebook to be more portable and so opted for the 6324

Just hoping I wont be annoyed with the reflections... :/ (have only had Matte before)
