Any thoughts on acquiring these new AMD parts for upgrade existing Whitebooks? It seems almost impossible to get a hold of the 3870 part by itself right now. Do we have any reason to expect the situation to change when the 4870 becomes widely available?

i think all major resellers will offer 4870 upgrade kits.

There are many topics on this subject. Most of us don't know, and those who do know can't say anything yet.

fair enough, I don't want to start needless threads. I'm thinking more of truly whitebook purchases (ie...Newegg), rather than machines bought from vendors. I'm not sure if that changes any answers. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

Nah, they'll all have the same MXM slots, so if one can get them, they all will.

Guarantees have been made, plus Alienware has put out PR statements, so it's just a matter of time until you guys can buy them.

My only real concern is that Rjtech/XoticPC/RKComputer won't sell me the card(s) because I didn't get my whitebook from them. This is probably unfounded but it's a concern nonetheless. I'm from Canada and newegg.ca is significantly cheaper with the current dollar if I end up getting one. Anyway, I suppose only the vendors can answer this question and they probably won't until the cards are actually available.

Once the cards are released from the manufacture as an upgrade kit they will be available for purchase. It will not matter where the chassis was purchased. We were told the cards should be available the same time the new model w/vga is released.

It's nice to hear that resellers will be able to sell to anyone with the chassis. Thanks for the info.
