My Blu-Ray drive seems to have stopped reading Blu-Ray disks!

Right now, when I put in a disc, I can hear the drive begins to spin and whir as though its loading up, but then it stops, then restarts up again, then stops, then starts, etc.

While this is going on, no indication of a Blu-Ray being loaded appears on my screen.

When I look at the drive via 'My Computer', I can see the 'drive D' listed, but it shows no disc.

And when I try to start up my PowerDVD program, the program just crashes.

Eventually, my drive sorts of gives up and stops whirring altogether until I try to reload the disc.

This was the first time I tried playing a Blu-ray disc on my WB for a few months, but it worked perfectly fine before, so I'm sorta stumped as to what could have happened since then.

BTW, it's still reading data/music discs perfectly...

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

    Thanks in advance guys!

Bluray discs are read with a different laser to to CD/DVD one, so one could die with the other still fine. All I can say is, try a different disc, and if it still doesn't work, invoke your warranty and get a replacement drive.

Kinda off topic, what blu-ray drive is needed for our W840s? any size and spec?

Hey thanks for your response. But it seems that maybe the lens isn't the problem.

I tried a few other BD-discs and they played!

However the problem still exists with other BD discs!

Does this mean it's a problem with the hardware driver or something?

I noticed that the discs that don't work are newer releases (The Wrestler, Iron Man) while the ones that do work are a bit older (Casino Royale, Wall-E, Dark Knight).

    I'm running PowerDvd 9 btw and my BD-Drive is a "Optiarc BC-5500S"...
