did i get a bad set of speakers? they sound bad, a little muffled and as if sound were coming out from a can.
ive already played with Environments and Equalizer in the Enhancement tab.
i Choose "soft" in the Equalizer, that kinda made things normal, but there is no bass. do all of these whitebooks sound cheap?
My old dell inspiron 9100 sounds amazing compared to this.
any thoughts?

Hmmm I've known whitebooks to give sound that is quite good.
-
it is your sound drivers. The speakers sound great.
-
Download your new driver's here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Realtek-HD-Audio-2.09-driver-download-2124.html
Just install and you should be golden -
seconded (thirded?). It's the drivers. I remember the sound was muffled before I installed the Realtek drivers.

thanks, though that didnt work, and actually i think my front speakers are the culprit. i dont hear anything coming from them only the subwoofer.
shoot! and i got this overnighted on saturday. -
Uhm.. I had the same problem with mine originally. Once installing the new Realtek drivers, it worked fine. If you right click the little white speaker or orange speaker in the taskbar, and then go to audio devices..make sure all 3 are enabled - See pic below - Make sure that your devices are also labeled as mine. With speakers set as default sound device.
You may also need to check device manager, and make sure under "Sound Devices" you have the RealTek Hi Def Audio installed.
-
hooray! it works.
e-wrecked i did already have all the proper stuff from the images you sent. but then you got me thinking, haha.
so i uninstalled the program, then uninstalled both items from the Device Manager.. but windows kept installing them. so i kept on trying until i got the exclamation marked icons to remain there.
i installed the realtek 2.09, and same issue. though this time i did not see the Orange colored speaker icon in the systray. so i grabbed the driver CD that came with my laptop and installed HDMI-R203 . Now it all speakers work!
though now i'm seeing some devices disabled, i right-clicked on them to check out some more option but nothing. though on properties for those items, it says it is working properly
well, i will be playing around some more.Attached Files:

Glad it worked out for you I was getting ready to pm you and ask for your email to send over the newest drivers on mine . Well enjoy the new computer and congrats on the rig

thanks to all for chiming in!!!
i downloaded the hdmi r2.09 also, but still nothing. as long as i have working speakers all is good. though, i still think my inspiron 9100 sounds better.
is there a user configurable Equalizer for the Realtek? -
which items are showing disabled? All of em should be working fine.. even though your sound works.
Just trying to make sure all your stuff is working for ya.
Equalizer? I havent personally found one, tho I've looked. There's some properties settings under sound devices where you can change the playback options, however, nothing too drastic. you could always download an outside program to do so. -
i included 2 pictures on one of my posts regarding what i have missing.
-
my bad..just saw that. Hmm.. not sure why the differences..but hey, if it's working..then roll with it
-
how have u installed your drivers when you updated to r209? i uninstalled and the ones that came on CD then did the r209.
after that I installed HDMI r209. -
The r209 should be the Realtek HDMI Audio driver. All I did was go into device manager, right click and uninstall the sound devices before running the Realtek package.
EDIT: just re-read your comment. Just use device manager to uninstall anything under your sound categories, and under system devices the "High Definition Audio Controller" you should have 2 copies to uninstall. Then without reboot, install the downloaded HDMI package. Reboot and keep fingers crossed.
