Besides Dell, Eurocom and VoodooPC, I haven't been able to locate anywhere else in Canada to get a custom-built laptop. The Clevo-based Eurocom machines are too expensive for me with the specs I'm after, Voodoo is way too expensive, and Dell doesn't have the configuration options that I'd like (like a better video card than the X1400 in any machine besides the $3000 XPS.)

Is there anywhere else in Canada where I can pick and choose my components to some extent? My main problem is that I can't get a decent video card in a lot of otherwise decent computers - I basically have to buy a massive 17" powerhouse, sometimes with a desktop processor, just to get a good gaming video card. Most exceptions to this rule, both custom and stock, are only available in the States or Europe (Asus W3j, for instance, or most Clevo rebranders.) I want to be able to take a portable machine, 15.4" or less, and put something like an ATI X1600 or GeForce Go7600 in it. Where can I do this without importing my computer?

    Try more Asus shops: http://ca.asus.com/mobile/buy.html

Check out the Asus subforum here, the W3j and a bunch of other Core Duo laptops are coming in the next few months.

Like this thread about the 14" A8Jm that has the go7600. The thread starter, Danny from CanadaSys is a seller of Asus laptops in the GTA.

I second the W3J, I'd love one myself but they're out of my budget, check out stuff on the W3v to see the build quality and looks of it, as well as measurements and such. They're the same model so they should be about the same.

www.RawPowerPC.com now ships to Canada; they have a good selection of notebooks, mainly Asus and MSI.

RawPowerPC only lists US and Kuwait (?) as places to ship to.

What is the build quality of the rebranded Clevos? I am currently using a Dell Latitude D600, and am not at all impressed.

I'm in Canada, so I'd probably go through Eurocom if I got one, unless there are other Canadian based companies, or ones that will ship to Canada without a hassle. Sager will technically ship to Canada, but they don't exactly make it easy and won't take a non-US credit card. I guess Alienware ships to Canada without much in the way of problems.
