    So,
who's planning on personally installing Win XP on their IFL90?
(edit: regarding the SATA drivers) are you going to use a usb floppy drive or slipstream the drivers? Where can I get the drivers from?

It surely is tempting to spend the extra $145 and just have a working Win XP installation CD....

    Regards

it might be tempting but it's definitely not worth the $145 for about 1 hour of work. Just search around the forum and you'll find plenty of tutorials on slipstreaming sp2 on xp, like this one.
    You can find sp2 here

Ok... given that I already have the Win XP SP2 disk, will an external usb floppy driver be enough for installing the SATA drivers? Or am I missing something?
Point is I will be out of my country attending college, so I'll be kind of far away from my desktop/cd burner pc and I want to make sure I will be bringing everything I need with me.

    Regards

Personally, I think you should be fine with just the sp2 cd but to be on the safe side, just put all the drivers you need on the thumbdrive. hope that helps

    I hope so!
However, according to this thread, it didn't quite work...
Where can I find the drivers for the IFL90's SATA controller?

    Regards

Don't know for sure why, but I managed to install WinXP on mine HEL80 without any drivers.
    1) Maybe there is some sort of adapter that makes pc think that it is using ATA drive. Because HDTune/Everest even tells that it's ATA 100.
    2) I integrated RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack and maybe it comes with some sort of universal SATA driver or nlite integrates those automatically.

Im thinking your gonna have to slipstream those drivers into a copy of winxp. I hate floppies and don't use them on my desktop. but I have a usb floppy drive and winxp always asks for sata/raid drivers from the floppy on drive A:\ but my usb floppy drive is always drive b:\

I don't think it would be any different on a laptop.

Most probably... and so we are back to this post... :\

What are the implications on disabling AHCI...? Will the disk perform slower?

I'm going to order a Sager 2090 without an OS. When I have to install XP do I also have to disable AHCI, pop in the disc, install, and then be happy?

Yes that will work. But then even when you install the drivers later you cant enable AHCI anymore. I am not really sure if it is much of a downside.

Same question, getting my FL90 tuesday (willing to make a serious review and photos, too much time anyway). Will turning AHCI off have serious consequences for the HDD performance ? :)
I know a guy who did that and still got 5900-ish on standard clocks for 3dmark05, dunno the read speed etc though :(

    What exactly is AHCI?

Is there a way to install XP without turning it off?

I'll be installing XP personally on my Sager NP2090 (bleh same thing :D). I'm just concerned about SATA drivers, but I don't know how that might work out with an SP2 disk that I have, since I've reformatted my desktop with SATA hard drives plenty of times without any grief.
