A few days agao I tried to put windows 2000 on my averatec 5400 series. I came with Wondows XP home, but I wanted either XP pro or Windows 2000 Pro.
So I installed it, but everytime I put in the VGA driver distributed by Averatec it never loads windows again. It just feezes on the loaidng screen. I was wondering if anyone had any idea why?

Cause it is made for XP, not 2k. Perhaps you could download the driver from the card manufacturer's website or let Windows Update look for a driver. Good Luck.
I know things, things that could get me killed

sometimes the XP/w2k drivers are one and the same, sometimes they're not.
CHeck for OEM drivers. And for all its holes, WinXPpro is a far superior product to 2k in most respects. A lot of things they tried to do in 2k actually work in XP. -
I put win2K SERVER on my 3250-H1. Just had to go around to all the hardware vendors websites and download the windows 2000 drivers. Took me a few hours to round them all up but it runs like a top. The only thing that doesn't work on mine is suspend to ram...but that's just because Win2k server doesn't allow it's host to suspend. If I had put win2k pro on there everything would work.
