I’ve searched this forum and Google to the best of my abilities and came out empty, so I’m making an official question, because there’s a lot of threads here talking about this or that not working on Windows 7 or Vista installed on Compal EL80 a.k.a. HEL80.

What I would like to know is how did you guys managed to get Windows 7 installed on your EL80, because I'm banging my head against the wall literarily trying do just that.

So far every attempt failed with an error 0x8007017 - Files are missing or corrupt.
Usually it fails during the phase: »Extracting Windows files« at 13%.

I’ve searched Google, and found various topics, about hard drive issues, damaged DVD’s, DVD burning speeds being to high,…, but none helped me get anywhere near the possible answer or solution. I threw every test I could think off at it at the time

    - Fujitsu Disk diagnostic utility,
    - Spinrite S.M.A.R.T disk check utility,
    - Memory tests (Memtest 86+, Windows Memory diagnostics, CSDSK), and found nothing wrong.

Installing from a USB failed the first time at 40% with the same error. The second time it passed the whole first stage, only to BSOD with “c000021a (Fatal System Error) - %SystemRoot%\System32\ntdll.dll corrupt or missing”.

After many failed attempts I've tried to install Windows XP, which installed without problems, so I suppose my issue is not hardware related than?

One of my last attempts was to perform an In-place upgrade to Vista, because I figured if I could get Vista installed, I will do an upgrade to Windows 7 later. Not a chance. After the first phase the computer reboots and displays an error (Windows encountered an error during installation).

The funny thing is that both advisors (Vista or Win 7) give me a green light for an upgrade.

    My system specs are:

BIOS: Phoenix Award BIOS 123B – came with the computer:

-versions from 119B should already be Vista capable (posted by another user of this forum)
-version 123B should be the latest (reference also found on this forum)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 1,6 Mhz processor
    MB: Intel Mobility 945PM
    RAM: 2056 MB of memory
    Disk: Fujitsu MHW2120BH –(S1); capacity: 120GB.

Thanks for any help you could give me.

*If any of the data (ex. logs), that could help just tell me and I will be glad
    to upload it here.
