    For those interested..

I'm running the Windows 7 beta on my HEL80.

So far I'm liking the OS. It seems as fast or faster than XP, not bloated like Vista felt.

Most of the drivers were there, except for the card reader and the fingerprint scanner. I don't use either of those. I had to flip the image from the webcam though, it came in upside down.

My mic is clear in TF2 now! There's an unexpected bonus.

Dual displays were easy to setup and integrate. The nVidia drivers are not over-clockable (yet) and I'm happy enough with the stability that I don't want to mess with a modded .inf file.

Well it's running on netbooks so I'm not surprised. Are you using it as your main OS?

    I installed 7 last night.

First, my question....how did you get to a setting to flip the webcam image? I've gone through everything and I don't see a place to tweak the cam.

So far it seems less irritating that Vista is on another computer. I had been running Mandriva 2008 and 2009 as both a primary and dual boot before making 7 primary. I was happy with Mandriva, except that the trackpad would go crazy within the first minute after booting and it would phantom click on stuff and screw things up. If I waited before touching it, then it would be 95% okay and just get wonky occasionally. Oh, and I could never get the webcam to work. It worked out of the box with OpenSuse 11, but I could never do it in Mandriva.

EDIT: Okay, I made a little progress with the webcam in 7. 7 downloads a driver when it connects to Windows Update. I downloaded the latest driver from this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4293687&postcount=143 but the first install attempt failed. I used Universal Extractor on the .exe file, looking for a .inf file to update the driver from Device Manager. I didn't get one, but I got a folder full of files with a setup.exe. I right-clicked and ran it as administrator and got a successful install. Now I have a little icon in the system tray, which I double clicked and got a preview window with the image right side up. Subsequent attempts to open the preview have resulted in an error a no image, but I'm assuming a reboot will fix that.

EDIT 2: DOH! The reason I couldn't get back to the preview is because there was still an instance running. If you only try to run one instance of AMCAP, everything is fine.

I wasn't going to use it for my primary OS, but after playing with it, I'm installing my main software on it, it looks promising.. :)

What did you have to do to get the WIFI switch to work? I just got this error message after installing the Wireless Select Switch driver, I guess that's the driver I'll need:
    ---------------------------
Wireless Select Switch.exe - System Error
    ---------------------------
The program can't start because EBLib.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------
I'm not able to activate the Wireless any other way.

It's laggy in some games for now, for example Bully Scholarship Edition was almost impossible to play on max resolution in 7, thought it was about 20-30fps in Vista. Apart from that windows 7 beta is pretty stable. And it maybe just me, but it lags a bit more (when opening install packages for example) then Vista with UAC and LUA File Virtualization Driver disabled.

I am testing the windows 7 64bit beta also, and I cannot get Wireless Select Switch to work. I can install it properly, but it does not respond to the fn+f2 command or clicking on the tray icon. I have no idea if this can be resolved, but I am left with simply booting into Vista to change the power state of the bluetooth or wifi radios. The switch also works on the front, but you cannot chose which radio to turn off, it simply turns both off. No compatibility mode on either WSS exe lets it run properly.

hmm.. maybe that's the issue, I'm not running bluetooth on mine, so it seems to run fine.

    Does HEL80 support 64 bit?

Can someone reupload the fingerprint sensor driver? Authentec seems to have closed that ftp link, and there are no links to it from the site. Win7beta, Anonyous, and Guest all require passwords or don't work. Thanks for the link anyway, but it'll be really cool if you could reupload(I would reccomend badongo.com It sounds obscure compare to Rapidshare or MegaUpload, but in my oppinion it's are much better).

Also, where is everyone getting their nVidia drivers(assuming they have nVidia cards). I got my computer from powernotebooks.com and it came with a nVidia Gefore 7600 Go. Right now I am using the vista driver from their support page(I had to unpack it from the exe...). I know nVidia released Windows 7 drivers for a lot of their drivers, but I couldn't find mine there. Anyone else with similar cards? Where did you get your drivers?

Also, I installed the Sonix driver for the camera. It installed and so did the software. The preview works and everything, but the image is still upside down. Anyone have any tips? Thanks for all the help, everyone!

I think i answered some of my own questions.
As for the fingerprint sensor, it is now found here:
    www.authentec.com/win7update/W7Wbf32.exe
As for the GPU driver, since it is not DirectX 10, it's going to use WDDM 1.0, meaning it would probably just use the Vista drivers, and that's it. Anyone with DirectX 10 capable card would want an update driver that support WDDm 1.1 for W7.

Still having problems with the camera. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling acouple more times, but I doubt that's it. Thanks for any help.

To flip the camera image, I opened the camera properties in Skype (which went straight to the driver options I think) and flipped it there. I'm not on that machine right now, so I can't verify that I saw it in the control panel as well.

As for the video driver, it's the one that came with the Win 7 (build 7000) beta. Actually, windows update may have updated it once or twice since the install, but I never messed with it directly. I did however install the nvidia overclocking utility, and have been overclocking the card when I game. One thing I liked about the driver was that it allows me to set my external monitor as primary. (Although it keeps 'forgetting' to keep the secondary monitor going on reboot. I don't reboot often though, so it's not a big deal.)

I actually avoided installing the fingerprint driver, since I don't use it, I figure it just takes up resources. If I could use it instead of passwords to sign into web sites that would be great, but other than that, I have no use for it.

For nvidia drivers you will have to go to laptopvideo2go.com and download drivers from there. Seems like 181.71 are for W7 even though when it was first released I used 185.20 drivers for Vista and they worked fine.

For the camera, I believe this was already mentioned here in this post, try typing amcap in run.

So the camera flipped itself after restarting a couple of times(with the new driver installed). For the fingerprint reader I managed to install the W7 drivers, but OmniPass doesn't recognize them(will DigiPersona?) so I rolled back to the Vista drivers and ran OmniPass with compatibility on xp and it works fine(by the way, you can use it for passwords for browsers. I just don't know if it supports the newest ones. I think it does).

As for the video drivers, thanks for the link, but it would seems there is a problem with using 181.71 from the site, since it's not WHQL certified, it says it doesn't support WDDM(even though dxdiag says WDDM 1.0) and therefore Aero refuses to work. I tried both the lv2g driver and the official one and they have the same problem. If I use a vista driver, everything works ok(I'm assuming that WHQL is somehow the problem because the vista drivers are WHQL certified).

So I understand that using the latest driver isn't really necesarry, and looks like just as I assumed, it won't even really benefit me(no CUDA, no PhysX, no DirectX 10 and no WDDM 1.1 for my old, old card...) so I'll just use the vista drivers. Thanks for all the help.

Hi, did someone manage to make Wireless Select Switch work with 64 bits SO?

I'm trying Windows Server 2008 Standard 64 bits and having the same problem already related, EBLib.dll is missing, so no wireless card and no bluetooth working.

    Thanks in advanced!

I tried a lot of drivers but none worked for me, I ended using the WIDCOMM's bluetooth software manager to control de hardware and even rolled back Windows Server 2008 SP2 because it had drivers conflicts and removed hardware control.

If you achieved some success please let me know!

I've just installed windows 7 x64 on my hel80 and everything works so far. Or should I say all drivers work so far. Found all drivers through out the pages of this forum. Just wanted to give those who may be upgrading too the heads up.

    wss -installed by itself
    fingerprinter reader installed on update
Camera and PCI flash reader were the only things I had to install seperately. Found the drivers searching around. I think all vista drivers works for 7?

Display driver I got from laptopvideo2go and runs at native res, not looking to overclock so I'm good to go.

Cheers, this just extended my hel80 another couple of years or so untill the next major OS relese. Infact, lookin to add some ram and SSD and Im sure I'll be set the next 5 or so years with my hel80.

Good luck on your installs everyone!

    St0l3n, just a few questions:

    - the WSS is fully function, with Crtl + F2 and system tray icon working?
    - what about bluetooth, do you have it?
    - could you check you WSS driver version and backup it to us with some of these applications?

About the upgrade, recently I changed the default 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 Aeneon for a 2 x 2GB DDR2 667 Corsair (although only 3GB is really in use due to well know chipset limitation) and the HDD Hitachi 100GB 5400 rpm for a WD Scorpio Black 320 GB SATA 7200 rpm. Now I just have to buy a new 9 cell battery cause mine has just gone.

For BT go to this site, Broadcom and DL that update software. That will update your drivers to the latest drivers. If you want to keep them after, as there is no option to save them, you can find them in the temp directory on C: disk.

If you haven't done that already.

grbac, thanks for the tip, but since I use Windows Server 2008 SP1 x64 it gives me "Operating system not supported" message. To workaround I downloaded a modified Windows Bluetooh Stack Pack and the latest Anycom (Widcomm) Driver for Vista x64, just using the Widcomm infs that allow me to manage the bluetooth radio hardware using the system tray icon, almost the same WSS would do.

I even tried to update WS2K8 to SP2 but it changed the drivers for bluetooth and was giving me BSOD, so I just rolled back to SP1. At least I'm waiting to
W7 be launched officially to get it in MSDNA and try it virtually with Hyper-V.

I'm not sure about the fnc+f2 ability as I use a usb keyboard, as I somehow "disabled" the native keyboard trying to "fix" it. So I can't help you there. About the tray icon, it shows bars when windows loads and connects to my router upon startup; and and "x" over those bars when I click the switch over. So yes, it works if that's what you mean? It also disables bluetooth/wifi both, or at least that's how I got it setup by default.

Bluetooth was installed by windows 7 during initial install. Works fine with my travelar mouse, (something I had problems with on vista- apparently you have to define a "code" to auto connect, something that 7's driver is able to manage.) So it's basically a windows driver "microsoft bluetooth enumerator" but works great so far for the one device I use it for.

Tried that application to back up my drivers, wouldn't start in windows 7. I found all the drivers here on the forums, so check around you will find it. You only need the camera and pci-card readers as seperate driver installs and maybe display if you want to run native resoultion. Everything else is handled by 7. Pretty seamless if you ask me, worth the upgrade to 7 definitely.

I need help. I upgraded my Hel80 from Vista 32 to Win 7 32. I have no touchpad. I have the Elantech Touchpad but none of the drivers I am finding online are working. Please, please someone give me some advice. Everything else seems to be working fine. I havent' used the fingerprint reader or integrated camera in ages so don't really care that they are not working. But I HAVE to have my touchpad back. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. This usb mouse is killing me!!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread... Have a HEL80, with an upgrade to Windows 7. A lot worked great right off the bat (including WSS, SD card, fingerprint scanner). The thing that's not working at all is the webcam and the microphone. It's killing me. I've tried tons of different drivers, including all the Sonix ones mentioned on this forum. (201 driver, I believe). Windows 7 automatically installs an ASUS 1.3M USB 2.0 FF driver. Every time I try to go into Skype, it tells me it's not compatible with the webcam. Every time I log on to the testmywebcam website, I get a black screen. Any ideas?
