Hi
I am the owner of one of those zepto 6224 with faulty (and broken) GPU (windows boots but no display, even on external lcd).
There is a screen gadget sold by mimo monitors that acts as a desktop area extension. The interesting thing is that it has its own built-in graphics chipset and is powered from a computer USB. There have been reports that this device could act as the primary display so I'm wondering if any of you tried this solution?
Thanks!

do you have a specific link? If its a separate graphic card it sounds plausible.
-
I'm using Ubuntu with the Vesa driver @1024*768 on the broken machine (Nouveau works too - @1280*768 - but only without 2D acceleration, means it's slow).
Sucks, but it's better than putting any more money into this crapbook. -
Does that reduce the strain on the card and therefore the temperature or is it the driver/OS that fixes the problem?
-
Do you mean that the CPU can actually replace the GPU via these VESA drivers?
In that case, do you now if a version for windows exists? [I don't really see myself installing linux without display, I have already enough trouble installing it with a properly working graphics card
]

Nope, the GPU still will be used - just as a very basic video card.
Guess you can use Windows' fail-safe driver (aka: don't install any Nvidia driver), but the GPU will still be half dead and you'll see those artifacts on the screen.
An external video card should work, but is it worth the trouble (money)? -
Ok then my GPU is completely fried (I would love to see the smallest artifact).
Is it worth it to buy a small screen? If it's guaranteed to work, then yeah it's worth it, I 'd have it extend the screen of my netbook too when needed ( like, all the time
).
Either of the reasons by itself would be a weak one though. -
oh and I could rip the display and use the lappy as a Single Board Computer to run a robot or something. Many uses pop from a mainboard with a display capability !

I went to a computer store and they did the "oven trick" professionally and it worked! I have one year warranty and they also enhanced the cooling manually a bit. I will reduce the stress on my gfx and hope that it will not happen again. It cost me around 100€.
Workaround broken GPU, did you try this?
