Ok, when did XoticPC started selling the OCZ Whitebook (Arima W840 DI)?!?
I just visited their site and was doing some price comparisons and saw it.

Talk about a "one-stop shop" for gaming notebooks.![]()
Now you can got another notebook option from this great vendor.![]()

it's been up for a week at least. 5796 won't stand for a chance in front of this.
-
but there has been no official reviews on it yet... we do not know its cooling, build quality, etc...
we just know it looks great on paper with the price tag. -
So far, yes.
But we`ll see, it`s thin and with 2 card and 2 hdds...I think it will have to be hot.
Or noisy... -
Wow!!! seriously the pricing on this thing is AWESOME!!!
Might add it to my notebook collection! -
Craving that backlight on the keyboard! Nothing I want more than a backlit keyboard right now. Gosh it would be useful.
The price is really good. I could have gotten far more for a bit less than I paid for the NP5796. But... you win some you loose some. I'm an nVidia guy at heart so I'm very content with the fastest single mobile GPU in the market -
I used some Dell's and Macbooks with the backlit keyboards... they are more for aesthetics, than usefulness.
When you start typing or using them for gaming, you do not even look down anymore... nots very useful unless if you not know how to type (touch typing). LOL.
Only a "show-off" feature IMO. -
Highly disagree. While it does look good, I find myself looking in the dark for specific keys that I don't have memorized. Like the Fn keys, the redesigned 10-key, etc. I use the system a lot while its dark, and having to tilt the screen down and squint for the key is really annoying.
The macbook Pro keyboard light is a little dark for my taste. A good bright one would do the trick. -
If you want to see your Clevo keyboards well in the dark... get a blacklight.
I saw how bright my keyboard gets with a blacklight... kinda cool during LAN parties. -
Ha I bet so. You know, if there are LED blacklights, I would guess one could be into each side of the LCD chassis with a small hood placed over it with a little room to spare. Then a wire could be run down through and into power. Would take some modding, but could be done methinks.
-
I have to agree with Gophn about the backlighting in the keyboard. It's as useful as the UV leds inside my desktop case, they make the watercooling hoses look prettyIt would be nice to have a pretty looking laptop for a change though.
-
Specs look really good, but I also want to see how this stacks up against a NP-9262.Does crossfire run any cooler than Sli from Nvidia?
-
What I like most is the 512MB PCI-Express ATI HD3870, I want an ATI card in the M860TU by Dec, or April. The 3870 will probably be dated by then, but it will be interesting to see if ATI holds up well in benchmarks (real performance). (I'm an ATI Fan)
That one is a bit too heavy for me, but looks great for people into real desktop replacements. -
Obviously you guys don't use your systems much in the dark.
-
-
A lid keyboard is amazing, I use it all the time on my XPS.
If the Crossfire turns out to be a better gaming choice, and not just a higher 3dmark score, I'm pretty sure this laptop will officialy become the fastest one in the gaming world.
Though I seriousely doubt that. -
it'll still lose to the 9262 easily
-
So I don't need it when I type, but trying to find the right fn keys or finding the right keys for the new 10-key layout isn't something many people have memorized...
-
Wow, this seems too good to be true. Do you guys think I should return my 5796, it seems like I can get a much better laptop for 100-200 more dollars.
-
guess the total amount of time I used the backlit feature on my MBP in past 1.5 years? less than 30 minutes.
-
Does anyone know when the NV GPUs will become an option? Will it increase the price a considerable amount?
-
Reportedly they are coming soon. Don't remember where I heard that. nVidia is notorious for being more expensive than ATI.
-
I wish 9800 GT's in SLI were possible with this notebook. I do believe in real-world gaming applications that the 3870 Crossfire may fall short of peoples expectations, I guess we'll see soon enough. I want this notebook, I think, but I'm still considering the NP5796 or even NP9262 as an alternative. For what you can get for the price the 9262 is just amazing.. but boy is it big!

Sorry, but there is no ETA for when the NVIDIA GPUs will be available in this notebook, nor where there be any SLI support.
And this thread should be in the new OCZ forum -
-
I'm going to wait a week and see what happens, if no new info comes out, I'm going to just go with a 5796
-
wow... i'm amazed at the pricing... it's not that bad...
i can get a pretty nice setup for $2000...
**** these computer choices are killing me... -
What would make this really sweet is if OCZ sold this as a DIY kit to end users as was marketed months ago.
-
It doesn't hurt to call ask one of the resellers who are offering it and ask if you can get a barebones lappy. I would be surprised if they can't.

Hi folks,
Does OCZ have a 15.4" laptop!?!? 17" is too darn big for me to lug around!

Any pictures of this notebook?

Killer Notebooks is supposed to be getting a test system on Monday and posting benchmarks. Supposedly they were the only company chosen to get this unit early in the United States because of their reputation.
We have a whole OCZ forum where we have been talking about this system for a while: http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1057
One of the threads I already discussed the price I got, and compared it to ExoticPC. I actually paid LESS for more system.

I have seen the video that is floating around the internet about this system. It almost seems too good to be true. I can't wait to see the real pictures of this system and the benchmarks.
I like the fact that this company is very active in the community. There is even a gallery of avatars and signatures at the GoG forum where I got mine and you can put in requests. Check it out! -
Well, Since Xotic has no tax, and KN does, it would be 3646 to 3800.
Furthermore, I suppose this is the base warranty? If so Xoitc has free extra 2 yrs labor. -
They don't charge tax at Killer Notebooks. I already pre-ordered it.
Total $3,513.00 OUT THE DOOR including shipping and a no dead pixel guaranty. I was actually refunded because the price dropped. I am looking at using that money to get a custom branding done.
Furthermore, Exotic offers a 15 day return period LESS shipping while Killer Notebooks offers 30 days and includes the shipping. He seems pretty confident in his product. Judging by the reviews his systems have had in the past I can see why.
-
Ok, Didnt know that, In that case you are correct sir, KN is the better deal.
Is this a special offer, or the regular price? -
I cant wait until you all get them, and a better one comes out a month later
I cant stand the continual outdating of laptops, becuase they are not very upgradeable, so I am making my own laptop this summer. So far it looks like its going to be an awesome build. Plus I will be able to upgrade it for much less than a laptop
I know mine will be the first laptop with 16 cores and at least 4 graphics processors, and the first one to break more than 32Gb of memory. Wow K-tron calm down you havent even got pass designing around the 27" screen yet
Stay tuned guys, this summer it will happen

Do you have enough Voodoos!?!?They must have cost you an arm and a leg.
G! -
I found it ... it looks a lot like my old Compal JFL92 ... and is using the older stuff ...
Thanks,
G! -
Do we need to add anyone to the reseller's list? I'm thinking that any resellers not marked as such need to contact the admins now...
-
oi, before u think about buying from xoticpc, consider K|N. They actually have better pricing, better support and really cool mods. And the fact that Mark is gonna release his quad core application free to all buyers.
the 3870s have been (almost) fully proven to get around 15000 3dmarks. The Whitebook is based on the Arima w840 D1, the second gen Alienware m9750. the m9750 was the last solid and superiorly built notebook they released before the m15x fiasco. That m9750 had a really effective cooling system and never overheated, despite being a SLi notebook that was only 1.5in thick.
Hope that clears up some things -
That must be true for the "High-End" and pricier lappys only ... right!?!?
Thanks,
G! -
I'm excited to see this. considering you can run a build of 2k that would still be very good..
-
@Qaz
Since it chassis is the second generation, do you know what has been changed since gen one?
Thanks. -
I'm gonna have to go with emike09 on the backlit keyboard point - I touch type all the time (like right now), and what I find is that, while I don't look directly at the keys, I do use my peripheral vision to keep my awareness of where the edges of the keyboard are and the position of my hands relative to those edges - that seems to generally be enough data to be able to hit the alphanumeric keys, shift, control, and the major non-alphanum keys by touch.
However, when I'm in near or total darkness, the light from the screen is so bright relative to the rest of the room, and, because of the tilt of the screen the light from the screen doesn't directly strike the keyboard at an angle that would permit me to use it to see by, and as a result I lose my awareness of where my hands are relative to the keyboard, and in particular relative to the number keys and the keys that I don't use frequently.
Further, because of the space constraints of a d**ned small NYC apartment, I can't turn the lights on where the computer is used when I get up in the morning and it's still dark outside - about 70% of the time. So, I would find it very useful to at least have a keyboard where the edges were backlit so that I could maintain my peripheral awareness of where my hands were relative to the keyboard. -
Does the backlit keyboard have all three options at once, or do you choose when ordering :S
XoticPC selling OCZ Whitebook (Arima W840 DI) - nice!
