Like many other people, I have been having the problem where the computer won't wake up at all after standby, and has to be manually powered off then on. I've searched the forums for this problem. I've read all of the other threads on it, and seen what has worked for other people. It appears to be a very common problem, to not be able to standby on this laptop. I'm unhappy, because being able to standby a laptop is a pretty fundamental thing for me.

So in accordance with what has worked for other people, I have tried applying WindowsXP-KB923232-v3-x86-DEU and windowsxp-kb923232-v3-x86-enu and windowsxp-kb923232-v4-x86-enu.

    None of them have worked.

I tried getting RMclock and enabling all of the enhanced halt and sleep modes, that didn't work. So I tried DISABLING all of the halt and sleep modes, and that didn't work.

Is there anything else I can do to try and get this thing to work?

    Thanks

    Yes, that wasn't working either.

I did a fresh install of windows, and it will at least wake up when opening the lid now. For now. It was a fresh install of windows to begin with, though, I don't know what went wrong that I had to wipe it mere hours after installing with yet another fresh install. When I wrote my original post, it would never wake up, whether you closed and opened the lid or not.

I'm kind of unimpressed, because the laptop is less than a month old. The install of windows was only a couple of hours old, and it suddenly stopped standbying correctly at all. I hadn't installed anything and hadn't been on the internet at all, so I don't know what it could have been.

But, a fresh install of windows has at least got it to the point of waking up if I close and open the lid.

the one that stops the standby issue is windowsxp-kb917332-x86-enu.exe, let us know if that solves it.

Does that mean that the hotfix that the laptopvideo2go link leads to did not work for you?

It's actually a Windows issue though--so it's not a fault of your notebook.

    And are you running XP?

Yes, I've searched all over for that one. It is actually the earlier version of the three I already tried applying, and can't be found anywhere now. At least, can't be found by me.

And chrisyano it was that hotfix. I'm not sure whether it ever installed properly, though, as it would just pop up with a c: screen for a brief moment, then pop away before anything could be read. This was true for all three versions I tried.

The fresh install of windows has at least got it standbying with lid open/close, and that's enough for me. Now I just cross my fingers that it keeps working.

Send me a PM if you want THAT hotfix, because I still have a copy of it in my restoration kit that I can toss on my web server for you.

yeah, thats one of the remaining little bugs to work out on my laptop. I have the kb917332 installed, and it shows up in my add/remove programs list, but I still have to close then open my lid if it goes into standby while opened. a bit off topic but I've also found my touch pad dies on occasion, and won't work untill I restart, but a usb mouse works fine.

Was this ever resolved? I too am having the same problem, and I have also applied all the patches. It's very frustrating.

This is also still happening to me in Windows and Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10. Unfortunately open and closing does not work in Ubuntu.
