Ok, so i sent my 6214W back to get repaired due to overheating.
Now it will play BF 2142 (the game that as making it overheat) but it will still only play it with medium gfx settings and all lighting or texture settings set to low.
Firstly, should this laptop be able to play these games without overheating.
If the answer is NO, what is the point in having 2 gigs of ram, a souped up gfx card and a core due 2gig processor if i cant use it...
Again, if the answer is no, am i entitled to a refund or replacement with a different model, as i believe this to be false advertising as a "gaming laptop"
Also, if the above is the case, any suggestions on type and model for a gaming laptop that will work from them?
If on the other hand, it should be able to handle these games (preferably on high settings), what are the chances of them fixing it if i send it back for a second time? I know i payed for a 3 year warrenty, but i dont expect to be sending it back every month or so :/
I apprieciate any help or insight you lot can give.

Your notebook is a gaming notebook, and has more than enough graphics, RAM and processing power to be classed as a gaming notebook. I would think that Zepto would get the system back to yourself quite quickly, and it should be fine after that. The reason it may be overheating is because of the thermal interface used, as it may have leaked or too much/too little may have been used in the production stage.
-
Yes, while it's not the top of the line gaming notebook it's more than sufficient for gaming. It's pretty common for processor temperatures to shoot up while playing intensive games or while encoding/decoding. My T7200 C2D has reached 85C under those conditions.

SpiritStalker, are you in the UK?
-
Ok, i may not have been completely clear, so il elaborate a little.
Firstly, yes, i am in the uk, Aberdeen, to be precise
It still overheats. However now it takes more strain on the system to overheat it (i.e it will now play BF2142 for hours on end, but will overheat after maybe 10 minutes on high settings) By now im sure you see the issue lol, Sorry for not being very clear, its early in the morning... Even more so now lol.
Thanks for saying it should be gaming though. Any more thoughts? -
My 6214 overheats too... Noticed that for the first time tonight, even though I've had it since september I've never had the chance to actually play long enough to notice it.
Or maybe it was because the games I played didn't make it heat that much (Sacred & Fifa '07)... I played FEAR for approximately 45 minutes and it shut down. It booted again after 20 seconds. (needless to say I was scared ****less for 19 secs)
I don't know if sending it back would actually help if it's the cooling system that's insufficient. What do you all think ? -
Have you tried to note the temperature of the device which is causing the overheating. It may be the processor or the graphics card, as they are the most used components in gaming. I'm not sure of the type of heatsink and fan design Zepto has used on this notebook, but some designs are better than others, so the overheating may be caused from an insufficient fan/heatsink design.
-
Simon, heres a good one, i played FEAR all on high for 10 hours straight to complete it (it wasnt my copy) and it didnt overheat.
As for the temps, the shutdown point is between 110oC and 115oC, according to some of the zepto employees. So go figure lol. Before i got it repaired for the first time it was running at 80 Degrees idle and shutting down on a massive load. Games like counterstrike run at about 100 Degrees. -
Just in case you haven't tried this yet--have you tried updated GPU drivers and/or installing the latest patches for the games that are causing problems?
I am also curious to see how many overheating Zeptos are in the UK. -
SpiritStalker, I feel for you.
(Cut and paste from an email to them):
Whilst playing a game (Bf2142) for around 40 minutes, my laptop froze and small coloured squares appeared all over the screen. Turning the computer off and on again allowed me to boot into windows properly, however soon the same happened again during the game. Rebooting again allowed me into windows, however the mouse cursor became screwed and thick black dotted lines showed up towards the middle of the display. To be certain that the screen wasn't to blame, I connected the laptop to an external view and the same occured. Rebooting the computer caused another problem: now I am not allowed to enter windows and the computer resets on each attempt, however I can boot into safe mode (on an external device with the same thick black dotted lines, not on the laptop's screen, as this is now completely white with a few 1-pixel thick vertical black lines and slowly creeps to black).
Leaving the laptop off for a couple of hours makes the screen work, however after a few minutes the screen becomes white again and I cannot enter windows (only through safe mode via an external display). I believe the graphics card may have overheated and become faulty, and am really upset that this could have happened as I have only had the laptop for a few months and have a vital project which I must work on everyday with deadlines just over a week away. I keep the laptop in a well ventilated area and can only think of the laptop's internal cooling being the problem.
END EMAIL
They wont reply to my emails, so I called just under a week ago and am expecting an email on how to ship my laptop out, which they havent sent. -
You're emailing Zepto Denmark right? Not Nusystems? Cos they no longer work for Zepto.
Also that sounds like something bad happened to your Graphics card. I've heard of it happening to OC'd cards, weird shapes happen on the screen, usually triangles. I think your card may have been damaged by the overheating. -
Yep, what I thought, an overheated graphics card (althought I haven't overclocked at all, I updated the drivers though). The support guy also thought thats what it sounded like too. I've been emailing and ringing Zepto Denmark, still no response, I think if I call tomorrow and demand the service I deserve then they can't not sort it out.

Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
Rajveer,
I've emailed you this evening. I just needed to get the procedure on how to get it all arranged down on paper before i could set it up, so no need to call us tomorrow. -
I'm glad to see Rene is on the job for you. It definitely sounds like GPU issues to me as well.
-
Rene, any chance of helping me out? (It is my thread afterall
)
Should my laptop be overheating? Because its already been "fixed" once. I dont want to have to send it back every month, i know my warranty is for 3 years, but it shouldnt have shipped to me in the first place.
I can also offer my e-mail address if you wish to have easier contact with me,
Thanks -
I have to admit they are offering a good service, they're collecting my laptop instead of me having to ship it which is why it took a few days to get back to me (for them to arrange it). Thanks Rene
SpiritStalker, sorry for taking over your thread, I'll step back now(Although I totally agree with you about the overheating, its a problem we shouldn't be having).
-
Thanks lol, hope you get your issues sorted.
-
spirit stalker, have you ahd any success?
i am suffering exactly the same issues with a 'fixed' 6214w
Yet more overheating? (6214)
