    Hi,
I am interested (and desperate)to buy a Zepto Znote 6224W Notebook with a 2.4Ghz T7700 processor(or at least with a 2.2Ghz T7500 model) before mid August/ September. I contacted a guy at the Zepto Sales in UK using their sales phone number and was disappointed to hear that they wouldn't be offering the notebook with the T7700, at least until September(even though he said this is a not so sure estimate). He said that this was due to a overheat issue, and when I asked whether it was the BIOS he said its not the big issue. I am on the verge of getting a Rock Pegasus 670(even though I don't like it that much as its a 15.4"), can you guys please tell me what to do.

This poll is an unfair and bad call

    You are compareing a 14.1" laptop to a 15.4" laptop ???

"Pegasus 670 is the versatile 15.4" Centrino Duo notebook: play games, watch movies or get your work done on the move, Shipping as standard with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 1.3Mega Pixel Camera & A unique anti theft device from just £999 INC VAT. " not shipping till 9th July earliest.

    If you make comparisons, why not a 14.1" to a 14.1" ??? or 15.4" to 15.4"

    edit add:

    "due to a overheat issue"
There is no overheat issue? I have the 2.4Ghz T7700 and to put the record straight. The T7300, T7500 & T7700 (2.0, 2.2 & 2.4) all share the same thremal package !!! 35Watts
They all generate the same heat ! read other posts for links I gave previous re: search google and you will find out that what I'm saying is true.

Np, Alex, but on the matter of choice, I'd say wait, for another 2.4Ghz laptop in the 14.1" frame. Zepto will reintroduce it when things pan out for orders. But I know how hard it is to wait & wait... your choice is , if you want it NOW! then look for something else in a 14.1" frame or go to the 15.4, but if you do that, spec up the Zepto 6225 (15.4") version @2.4Ghz.

What I did is made a list of all the things I would not move on, a second part of the list was things that were changable (ie. 2X 10/100/1000 LAN ports, PCMCIA cardBus v ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54)

    Then find your contenders

It doesnt matter if they generate the same heat, if you've got the heat condensed in a smaller chassis it will concentrate the heat more and be less efficient and expelling it due to smaller fans and less air vent surface. That inner heat will then effect other parts of the laptop, not just the cpu, thats why they dont do it.

Do either rock or zepto use arctic silver?

You are assuming the smaller chassis somehow is a problem for the extraction of heat. All I can tell you is do your research better. I have the 2.4Ghz 6224 and it's base is cool as ice all day (to coin a phrase). I do not want to get into a debate re Zeptos extraction of the 35Watt thermal package that the 2.0 to 2.4 Ghz dual core T7xxx series use but rest assured, there is no issue with overheating when the 6224 is running the std T7700 intel.

If there was then I'd be the first to state that as I invested $$$$ in my laptop with the top spec !!

For reference, what temps does your CPU get? (idle and full load) I wonder if they'd be any different to other T7xxx's...

Viiiper, how have you bought a zepto 6224w with a t7700, the site only allows you to order the t7300 on 14 inch, and theres been other posts about bios problems with 2.0 ghz + which is why they dont offer it?

There's a lot of info on this already. The following is one such example:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=131840

T7500 and T7700 were offered a while ago (probably during preorder time). Zepto then discovered some issues with these processors and the ODM's BIOS (Zepto have been very vague about this, tbh). They expect the BIOS problem to be resolved soon (August or September sometime, apparently), at which time they will start accepting orders for the higher CPUs again.

I believe Viiiper put his order in while Zepto were still offering T7700s.
It's interesting that his works fine, yet Zepto won't offer them. A bit odd I know, but I guess people will have to wait for the bigger CPUs.

Your right I ordered back in MAY 07, and Zepto honoured the order, there are threads that explain why the T7500 & T7700 were pulled but it's to do with the cost of construction re: the bios hiccup.

The system had to be built (with a slower speed cpu), then flashed, then stripped back and the correct CPU placed in and rebuilt and tested, all by hand (no robots). As you can imagine the construction times would be 2-3x the normal construction, hence the withdrawal of the none supported cpus (on the original shipped bios's).

Others that pre ordered had the same.

I can tell you that the service from Zepto UK was great, the comms were first class. The laptop is still running fine.

Thats bad, so zepto are willing to lose out on more customers because theyre too lazy to reconfigure their construction line to accomodate for this?

As viiiper pointed out, these specs can be made and work fine, its just zepto can't be bothered to put the extra work in for future customers.

I emailed Zepto last week asking if they could put in a special order and customize my laptop with a faster cpu, and told them id be willing to pay extra for this, they just said no, disappointing.

Zepto is not too lazy. They did this for the customers who had already ordered so they dont have to cancel orders and disapoint people. It is alot of extra work since they need to assemble a laptop, update the bios, take it apart and assemble it again. It is understandable that Zepto does not want to do this.

Also they are just too busy right now as you might have read in other posts. I think they would have done it if they had not been so many back orders and people waiting. Offering the 2.2 and 2.4ghz cpus would have ment more delays and Zepto decided to avoid this.

No wave, it is not understandable, and yes it is laziness. Being too busy is also not an excuse, they should thrive on being too busy to make their company bigger. I think if people could order the spec they wanted, they would be willing to wait longer, i would.

The fact is, the laptops can be made, zepto choose not to make them.

= Boo hoo for zepto, again, its being lazy.

If thats true id like to see that email. The reason im annoyed with zepto is that they told me they wont be offering these processors in the future either, otherwise i would have waited. What country do you live in, not that that should matter, but they might say thats the reason.

Do you order from the dutch site in germany? I live in the UK and we dont have that option. Zepto make all of the laptops in denmark and then ship them out correct? So i dont see why they have done this.

    uk.zepto.com - max is 2.0ghz on the 6224w

I cant really tell you anything more. I did not order from the dutch site but i know 2 people that did (they live close to the boarder and have relatives in holland). I cant promise you that the 2.2 and 2.4ghz will ever come back. By the information that I got they will and by the information you got they will not. Zepto is telling different things.

But the email you got was not a 100% no. It just said that "he" doesnt think so and that the August/September date was forum speculation. Doesnt mean that it cant be true. Maybe he just didnt want to confirm anyting that wasnt 100% sure so not to disapoint anybody. Might be wishful thinking I know.

It also says that those faster cpus being available again on the 6224w is "totally untrue", which sounds pretty 100% to me.

I have just emailed zepto with the link you gave me to argue this point with them direct, i'll post any reply i get in here as soon as i get it. Wont be until monday though.

I dont see why they cant just install it, they will be making more money by doing this. Do zepto not want more money?

The laptop can be made, but zepto dont want to make it because its "too much work", ..come on

I hear your frustration "Gi1bo" but it's not that Zepto are too lazy, it's not that it's too much work, it's simply that Zepto are a business and are making products to make money. The whole workaround to bump the bios is a major job, and I have no drought Zepto would have the faster cpu's back on if it made commercial sense but it does not, (well not at the moment).

If they have indeed pulled the T7500 & T7700 from the 6224 range for good then the bios issue must be bigger that the initial shipments, (like a few thousand at least).

Like "Wave" said and I was lead to believe the same, the CPU's will be back (probably in the time period wave mentioned). But just to let you know one thing, the extra 400mhz on CPU speed has not made the equivalent boots to applications. Hold on tight, good things come to he who waits.

Viiiper - As you probably know, computer technology changes every 3 months minimum, "good things come to those who wait" doesnt really apply with computer technology, otherwise you will wait forever and buy nothing. If the technology is available at the time of purchase why would you not want to take advantage of this and get the best you can at that time, to prolong the laptops life. That extra 400mhz may make the difference in a couple of years time between running a certain program you need, or having to spend another £1000 for a new laptop.

If zepto were able to fulfil these 1000s of back orders with faster processors i doubt its that much of an issue, your making it out to sound like it takes weeks and weeks to correct this bios issue.

Another point viiiper, is that wave posted a link above stating the dutch website offering the 2.2 and 2.4 ghz processor still, my issue with this is that i live in the UK and these are not available on the uk site.
I was under the assumption that all laptops from zetpo are assembled and tested in denmark, then shipped out to various european countries, so why offer one country different specs to others?

I hear your point about zepto making money, but if zepto are going to lose a customer to another one of the many laptop companies out there able to provide 2.2 and 2,4 ghz processors, then thats not making money is it? Before you bring up the point about the laptop being 14 inches, i have already posted questions about this and there are other companies supplying these processors in 14 inch and smaller laptops, besides, even zepto themselves did this at one time.

If zepto offered these processors i would buy the laptop this week, i will still probably settle for the 2.0 but im still looking around, Do you think customers should have to "settle".

This statement is wrong, you dont think customers would buy more of zeptos laptops if they had faster processors in them? There have been multiple threads made in these forums bringing up this issue, i am not the only person wanting this, let alone all the people that dont post in this forum and still want faster processors on this laptop.

One other point, if they are going to offer then t7500 and t7700 in the future, the bios issue can be fixed, so why not fix it now, they are going to have to fix it in the future anyway, so why not take advantage of gaining more customers now AND in the future...all i can think of, once again, is laziness.
Its like saying, I have a paper to write for school, if I do it I will get good grades and be successful, but its too hard to write, so I wont bother.

Gi1b0, you have some pretty strong opinions haven't you? We've tried answering the things on this forums as best we could, but i guess you don't believe much of what we say. :)

All i can say is the reason why we are not selling the high end CPU's at the moment are not because of laziness, that is basically a ridicules statement to be honest.
I have no information about when the high end CPU's will be back, but they will be back when the production can mange it and will be able to deliver the laptops in time. This will definitely not be during the summer holidays as we are not working full power during this time, just as any other company at this time of year. Also the BIOS that fixes this issue has actually been put out for download on our website today for anyone that wants to update their machines.

When you are selling 2.2ghz and 2.4ghz cpus on 6224w's in other countries, no, i dont believe what you say.

Yeah, ridiculousy true, what other explanation is there. Its too much work for you to do, so you dont do it, isnt that the definition of laziness?
You fulfilled all the may orders correct? But because that was sooooo much work your not offering it anymore.

    Why not?

    Now thats a ridiculous statement

So you already have the fix but are shifting responsibility onto your customers, rather than applying the fix to the models your making now. And even though you have the fix now, you wont even start putting it in until after the summer holidays???

    Lazy.

What kind of company is this, zepto are on the verge of losing a customer here. They dont work hard through the summer periods, they refuse to take extra money in order to apply this bios fix they already have and to put in a faster cpu, the websites in different countries offer different specs...whats going on zepto??

Gi1b0 I agree with you about Zepto being foolish not offering the 2.4 proc's, but its up to them. If they choose not to utilize their competitive advantage, as the only 14" model offering a 2.4GHz proc on the market right now, then that is their problem. Personally I don't see why they don't just add the cost of extra man hours to the price of the option for those who want it. Again, its their business. Also, there maybe unsaid labour issues at hand or they have enough back orders keep them well in the black and they don't care about a smaller market. If they don't want it, maybe someone else out there does? Finally, if they are going to wait to launch the model it seems like it is timed to rival against a rumoured Asus that should be out around that time (maybe there is an Asus conspiracy here j/k).

Gi1b0 isn't saying anything those of us waiting aren't thinking. We're all itching for this new product. It doesn't help that there is already a long wait time after it becomes available. Some international orders could take around 30 days, wait till Nov?!?! My advice is buy a DS or PSP to hold you over. If that fails, then maybe your money is destined for another company or you could just buy the 6225W, the difference isn't that much. .5kg and 1cm?

    Exactly my point

Unfortunately i cant wait until November, and gettins a ds or psp wont work either, im not buying it for games i need it for uni in september.

I dont know what this 6225w model your talking about is, im sure its not 1cm bigger. Do you mean the 6625? its 1.3 inches bigger screenwise, but i dont like the grey keyboard.

I cant see anyone else bringing out a 14 inch laptop with a 2.4ghz cpu and a 512mb 8600m gt like this one. Thats why im saying id have to settle with 2.0.
With rumours of 2.6 and 2.8 (t7800 and t7900) coming up around the corner, its already starting to look way behind.

I would buy it right now. 400 MHz is a very decent boost. 2 GHz is already antique and in half a year will be completelly outdated. I'm looking for 14 inch 2.2-2.4 kg laptop packed with powerful parts, and Zepto (T7700 with 8600M GT 512Mb) is just fine. I would pay even more for carbon fiber case in order to reduce the weight. But it seems the low end market rules. Sony VAIO SZ series are gems, but 8400M GPU cuts my enthusiasm from the root.

Is that why theyre having a sale at the moment. I was going to buy one before the sale ends (mid august) on the basis of zepto telling me they wont be putting faster processors on the 6224w. I dont wanna see faster processors on this come late august/september.

mootoo your the same as me, i want the same thing. The annoying this is zepto originally sold the 6224w with the 2.2 and 2.4 ghz processors but had some bios issue they fixed for the customers who bought them in may and since then never sold them again. People in these forums have those machines. 8400m gpus are rubbish, and so are sony. Sony need to keep up to date with technology, ive lost respect for them, they rely on the mass markets ignorance of gpus to put in cheaper parts and make more money, anyone with any decent knowledge of computers or people who want good quality fast specs would not buy a sony. Those people buy from rock, compal, sager, zepto etc. Not hp or sony or any other big brands.

What processors are released this month, the 2.6 and 2.8ghz?

i agree 2.0 is ooooold now.

I wouldn't say Sony produces complete rubbish (except batteries :)). I'm upset on big brands coz they usually put junky GPUs (or even worse, built-in Intel graphics) in good looking lightweight laptops. The result is the same as when you add a spoon of sh*t in the flank of honey, you get a flank of sh*t.

lol, sony does this little trick of adding loads of "media software" namely adobe photoshop elements premier etc, then jacking the price up and saying its included free. I have all that software already. I like the design of the sony products, but for the same price you can get much higher spec, and the gpu is very important to me as it is for most people into gaming. Companies like sony and hp and many others put in lower cheaper gpus, to keep costs down and profits up and hope 90% of ppl out there see the laptop has a 256mb graphics card or whatever, and thats all that matters.
