Ok, so I'm almost near buying one of these but it took me a while to decide cos the Vostro 1500 also looks enticing.

    Znote 6625WD -

    120GB 7200rpm SATA Harddisk Samsung®
    SAMSUNG DVD-RW DL (150123)
    15,4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050
    NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT
    2.00 GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo T7250 800MHz 2MB
    2GB (2x1024) DDR2 667/PC5300 SODIMM
    Intel Pro/Wireless 4965AGN

    Thats the spec I'm gonna go with, and just a few things I got on my mind before I do order;

1, The 512MB on the 8600GT, is this actually 512MB or is it 256MB like most other models, just I have heared there are companies advertising 512MB models but really they're just 256MB+256MB shared from system memory.

2, In the review on here it says 'prone to overheating' - I'm a bit worried about this as I want this laptop to last a long time, as the laptop will be on alot when gaming, maybe 4hrs or so at times due to raids etc on some of the games I play.

3, It has VGA output, what kind of resolutions am I looking at with this on an external screen w/o the image looking bad?

4, T7250 is shown as 2MB cache, the DELL Vostro can use the T7300 with a 4MB, is there much difference between them?

5, Finally, obviously this is of personal preference but with this model, which OS would most people advise? My work colleagues don't really like Vista and say XP, and some say Ubuntu which I have not used.

    Hello

the Nvidia card is the 512MB version. Prone to overheating may be the wrong description as this notebook was launched only in May and not delivered before late June this year.

The notebook has VGA and not DVI, I wont go into personal preferences however...but im sure other will

    Hope this helps!

mine chucks out heat from the side port, but underneath is pretty cool - warmth on the left side. Has been on for about 8hrs solid, today. 2.4ghz cpu, 160GB 7200rpm

vista64 business is smooth on my machine. self install. have no need for another XP (which I have on 4 other machines) though have only had it for a week so far.

    1. Definitely 512M. Graphics card and screen are wonderful.

    2. I'm typing with it on my lap and it's no hotter than any other laptop I've had.

3, Erm, not tried it with an external screen.

4, You would be well advised, IMHO, to get a slightly more expensive CPU with 4M of cache; this, in my experience can make a fair old difference to speed.

5, I believe the OS choice might be down to what applications you need to run. If you are a gamer there will be applications, no doubt, that will not run under Linux. However, I run exclusively Linux now. I run, mail, web, ftp, code development for embedded systems, acrobat, word processing, spreadsheets, CAD, instant messaging, bit torrents etc etc on this machine which is running Mandriva Linux. If that's the kind of stuff you are doing I cannot see the point in spending all that money on Windows when you can have, for free, something that is much more stable and so much more secure.

I have a couple of totally non computer literate friends using Mandriva now and they love it. Apparently Ubuntu works well on this device too.
