I was browsing the internet, and I found this link (translated), from what seems to be a popular German online technology magazine. It details a new Zepto notebook, it appears to be an update of the 6615, with new features such as HDMI output and a DX10 NVidia graphics card, which has previously never been seen in notebooks.

    Link

What does everyone else make of this? It was on a Zepto Forum I found this, in German, and I had to translate it. This announcement appears to have only been made a few days ago, but has certainly put me off buying a 6615 until ''April or May'' when this thing is supposed to be released. Not sure if I like the colours, the black is nicer than the 6615's grey/brown, but it looks like it has white ''bumpers'' that Dell notebooks are unpopular for.

Interesting. Thanks for posting that link.

I know Asus currently has the A8Jr on the market with a low-end DX10 GPU (the x2300). I guess it wouldn't surprise me if the mid-range DX10 GPUs are out sooner than expected as well.

I've been hearing talk about 8600, 8400 and a few others coming soon. Current rumor is that ATI will launch all their R600 series (desktop & mobile as well as low-high end) parts at the same time. Obviously Nvidia went for high-end desktop first and is rolling the rest out later. I just hope it all comes soon.

"...new Notebook platform “Santa pink one”

    Nice translation hehe :)

Anyway.. It will probably not come until June (noone ever release on time)

X2300 is likely not to be a dx10 card at all, and most people say it's probably just a slightly updated X1300. I don't remember the details but the code-name for X2300 was an old one, which was based on the same platform as the X1000-series is based on.

ATI has done that once before with the 9200-9300 cards. They were based on the old gen-cards and not the new gen like the 9600/9800 were. It's a marketing stunt.

This is all speculation though. ATI/AMD hasn't even announced that card yet so we'll just have to wait and see.

I would be surprised if we see any new gen GPU notebooks within 3 months

Yes that Sata Pink One thing did make me laugh too.

What is Zepto's usual policy of announcing new model notebooks? Will they announce it on their proper website at some point?

Also do you think they will still offer the 6615 once this is out?

That would be quite disappointing if it does in fact turn out to be that the x2300 is just a marketing stunt. There has been quite a stirring about that GPUs release in the Asus A8Jr, and a lot of speculation.

I had originally heard that July would be the soonest we'd see DX10 in notebooks, but the A8Jr's release really turned that upside-down. Even MSI was hinting at DX10 GPUs in their new line of notebooks at CES 2007. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Lot's of interesting articles @ that link, thanks for posting it!

I hope we do see mobile DX10 GPU's soon, specially the higher series like X2600 / 8600 and so on...

About the X2300... let's hope it's DX10, there is so much hype about it being the first mobile DX10 GPU, i think it would be a bad thing for ATIs image if it wouldn't be...

Notebook GPUs are not upgradeable. You will have to buy a new notebook if you want the go 8600.
