It seems that the Asus G1S is above of these two. It has DDR3 VRAM and it's an Asus...etc etc. See thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=126200&page=3

But if we don't want of the gamer look of the G1 and spend little bit less, the laptops from Zepto and Acer seem to play in the same category.

    Which one would you pick?

The Acer is fatter, heavier and has a low res screen. No way I am getting that.

    Both are about 1500-1600EUr:
When compared to each other it's with what I could come.
    Anything else??

    zepto 6625WD
    Pros:
15,4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050, customizable config (HHD), reasonable look, Smaller & lighter, 2 years warranty but in Europe (I'm in the US).

    Cons:
perhaps the lack of 2 gadgets(?): no HDMI/DCin ports and no Robson, Two hidden fees 1)for VISA payment (109Eur) unless you have a “Dinner Card” (52Eur) 2) shipment (50Eur)!!

    Acer 5920 gemstone
    Pros:
Robson, HDMI/DCin ports, 5-in-1 card reader (3in1 on the zepto), Better audio (perhaps?), VoIP, cheaper, directly available is in the US, Warranty in the US.

    Cons:
Hideous design ( Cnet review), 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800), 1x2Gb RAM, slightly bulkier & heavier, Just 1 year warranty (not sure of that).

Robson you can buy for $30 and put it into the 6625WD.

I dont think the audio is better on either. Both have 7.1 sound I think. Not sure what you mean by VoIP, every laptop with internet and a sound card can do voice over ip.

The card reader is also the same really. Zepto just doesnt list xD and Memorystick pro as the extra 2 but you can read them with an adapter. Every xD and MSpro card that I have seen comes with this adapter so its not a problem.

You are in the USA. Why dont you look at the Compal IFL90 as an alternative. It is similar to the Zepto.

Thanks for this reply. This help.

I didn't know that the robson was that easy to put in and that the compal IFL90 was that good.

Acer advertise the phone Voip for their laptop and Zepto makes a poor description of their config.

Anyway, I aggree for the resolution and that makes a good difference.

The gemstone is slightly bigger and heavier too:

Zepto 6625WD: 2.7 kg (probably the min config), 355(L)x262(B)x27-39(H)mm
    Acer Gemstone: 3 Kg, 364 x 270.2 x 43.7 mm

I'm going to look back at the Compal IFL90. Not sure if there is a G8600M GT in it.
Maybe this thread Compal IFL90 vs.
    Zepto 6625WD
    would be more appropriate...

    yes, right! Thanks again.
I'll still have to figure out how to get a compal french keybord in the US and the IFL90 would be a good one.

The Acer is better value. The same spec Zepto will cost you upwards of £1000.
The Acer gives you £200 to spare.

I was going to go with the Zepto 6224, which is similar to the 6625, but with hidden taxes, shipping and credit card fee, it was £1050.

Im getting the Acer, which only as a downside of low res screen, but I have used 1280x800 on a 15.4 before and it has been fine. Less squinting is a good thing. Straining ones eyes to see even if your eyesight is good, will only weaken them.

Then spending the £200 extra on a belkin 7 port usb hub, 2 x 500gb external hard drive and a good notebook mouse.
