    Hi there!

My first post. I'm obviously sorry if it seems sort of clumsy, I haven't really got a clue about how these forums are normally used. :) No harm intended.

Anyway, to my question - which is about the Zepto Notus A12 and the Windows XP compatibility, which, by the way, is not supported by Zepto themselves. The question is if there actually exists drivers for every component in the PC for XP, or if it's a no-go?

The reason as to why I'm asking, is that Zepto is selling the Notus rather cheap in Denmark at the moment, but I've got absolutely no clue of how Vista can run on 1gb RAM - even with aero turned off, and still be able to have a firefox document open, and some OneNote/Word/Excel stuff, as well. But perhaps this is actually possible?

I would love to hear from some Notus owners about this, if anybody knows for sure. Mostly I'd like to hear some about the possibility of XP drivers, as that would be my OS of preference!

    Thanks in advance,

syfferen - happy owner of a Zepto Nexus A15. :p

Vista runs fine with a little tweaking. :) It isn't recommended to run a lot of programs at once, but Vista with OpenOffice or a few browsers at a time is okay, but don't expect blazing speeds.

XP can run on it with no problem as drivers are supplied on the Driver CD that is supplied with the Notus A12 from Zepto, but no additional updates are provided for Windows XP on the model.

Hi, and thank you! - Reason I was asking about the XP drivers, is that there exists nothing but the Vista 32bit drivers on Zeptos FTP. And there's a text document saying:
which seems quite misleading if they in fact put XP drivers on the CD. Are you sure all the required drivers is on the CD? There's 11 downloadable Vista drivers on their FTP.

Have you tried XP on it? :)

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have tried XP on it, but I like Vista better (I only have Vista on all my machines, so XP seemed out of place on the Notus).
Well just because Zepto does not support XP on the model support-wise doesn't mean they can't provide the drivers you need to be able to install it initially. I know they also provide XP drivers for Titan B15 and other models on the Driver CD, but does not provide any support for it.
I guess they have chosen not to put the drivers online on the FTP even though they are on the Driver CD as they do not want to make updates for XP on the model. All required drivers are available for both Vista and XP on the driver CD.

Oh, allright then. Thanks a bunch. :) Not much talking against me buying one of these for school then... Getting kinda heavy with a Nexus A15 plus books - and right now a Notus is about 696$ in Denmark, which is quite cheap compared to the pricetag it used to have.

Reason for me wanting XP is, that I sort of expect it to be able to have OneNote, Word and a few Firefox browsers open at the same time, and I don't seem to be quite sure as to whether it can handle this while running Vista or not...

*Edit*: I didn't really pay much attention to it only being their support, I just guessed there was no drivers, since they did not just publish them on the website! :) Thanks a lot for your answers!

I'm sorry for bumping this again - just hoping I can reach kadett2k8 just once more for another question:

How hot does the laptop become? Is the fan noticeable at all, and does it go on often? I read a review of the Hp 2133, and that one does apparently get very hot, and the fan runs constantly. I would like to know if the Notus is anything like that?

Thanks a bunch in advance! :)

The fan is not quiet when it kicks in. It's a 40mm fan so it's small and therefore noisier than a larger slower fan would be. The fan runs much less under Windows XP, than under Windows Vista (I'm running with Aero under Vista), so the chipset is under load most of the time meaning more heat :) It does tend to get hot under heavy use, but i haven't had any problems with the heat, and i've had it since it was released.
