Gotta say, I really do like the look of that; kinda reminds me of an IBM Thinkpad... And the native resolution coupled with that GPU should be a match made in heaven. So does it have a super bright screen too, bluetooth etc?

Cant tell you till we see the laptop. And no one has seen it. Hopefully there will be no problems. Both Zepto and Compal have had problems in the past. That is the price you pay for haveing such a fast card in a small laptop. Even laptops like the G1s and 3.1KG are alot easier too cool then the little bit smaller ones from Zepto and Compal.

So the site says pre-order but it also says 8 days delivery - which one is correct? :p When do these start shipping?

ZeptoUK said in post 5 that the 8 day (yesterday 9 days) should be correct. It is pre order because the laptops are not in stock but planned arrival is this week. But things can go wrong that are not in Zeptos hands since the laptops are not with them yet.

so, aside from the stated similarites (configurability) and differences (screen res, the look of the lappy)...what about the other stuff that people wanted to see in the 6625...does the 3415 have it build in?

-the hdmi, dvi-i, robson tubro memory...those bits that people thought discounted the value of the 6625wd?

    HDMI and DVI-I no
Turbo memory no but you should be able to buy it aftermarket and put it in with no problem.

These are the LCD display configs it features:

    • Supports 15.4” WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT color LCD
    • Supports 15.4” WXGA+ (1440 x 900) TFT color LCD
    • Supports 15.4” WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) TFT color LCD

Also after having seen the 1440x900 Samsung panel on the 6224W/6324W, i can say it's a nice size for the 14.1" atleast :) much nicer and more crisp than the 1280x800 featured on the 6214W i use :)

The listed configs are the configs available from Compal.
We will only feature the 3415W with the 1440x900 screen as far as I'm informed.

So that's a definite, definite, 'not available in 1440x900 flavour' for the 3415W then?

On your site it states that the 'Value' version of the 3415W has a WXGA screen, and the 'Power' version of it has a WSXGA screen, yet on your PDF crib sheet it has it down as a WSXGA+ screen.

Someone's obviously misinforming somebody; wouldn't you say?
It's all a bit misinforming isn't it...

I am very disappointed to hear this, when you said this laptop would have a WXGA+ 1440 x 900 screen it confirmed my decision for this laptop.
I need more desktop space then 1280x800 provides but I think 1680x1050 might be too much for my not-so-good eyesight.

Maybe you can still offer the laptop with this resolution screen though. Personally I think this laptop with a 1440 x 900 screen would fit very nicely between the budget 3215W model with it's 1280x800 screen and the high resolution 6625WD.

How about if we had a poll for preferred screen resolution on this model, would that sway your decision to provide an configuration for the higher resolution screen on this lovely 3415W? :)

One other thing, what's the situation with Intel Turbo Memory/Robson.. is it just not included but the slot (second mini pcie I believe) still there?

Does anyone else have a issue with the crappy battery life? 2.5 hours at minimum usage? My 2 year old sony gets 4 hours with wifi off and screen brightness at minimum...

    Hi all,

Just to confirm, I've been on the phone to Zepto this morning and have been assured that the only screen available for the 3415W is the WXGA 1280x800 screen... :(

    It's a damn shame...
Dt the same time I've been put under the impression that it only has a 8600go, can anyone confirm that? since I find the conflicting info very confusing.

I assume you mean 8600GT as I believe nvidia have dropped the "go" branding on the 8000 series and the zepto UK site says it will have a 8600GT anyway.

As for the screen, don't just give up. We know zepto can get the higher resolution models from compal and one thing I really like about zepto is you don't feel closed off as with some of the larger company's so maybe with enough suggestion they might change their minds :)

No I do infact mean go...
on zepto.dk when at the step where you chose from one setup or the other, there is alot of text explaning about the system and so on... and it says:
    nVidia® Geforce Go 8600
but at the top of the specifications it says GT...

You are right, 'Go' has stopped.

    It's a nVidia Geforce 8600m GT with DDR2 memory (Not the 8600m GT DDR3)
The info on the site is not correct about 'Go', you can check on nvidia.com

I havent looked into this system a lot, but I'm curious, why would someone chose this one over the 6625? Only reason I can tell from looking at the basic specs is its a little bit cheaper.

theres afew difference, though i think they are all minor..

    3415:
    - has a 2.0 MP cam...and a 'smart face techonology'...login with your face! lol.
    - fingerprint scanner
    - but only the lower rez of 1280 x 800.
    - its all black? some people like that
    - the compal reputation of a good build quality?

    6625wd
    - the higher 1680 x 1050 rez.
    - looks more...zeptoey...

im getting a 6625, dunno i hope its good...particularly the 'heat and noise'. sometimes those two things $h!t me off more so the acutual performance of the lappy. it was markets as a 'low noise' notebook as well.. so yea..
    - has the higher rez s

The way I see it, the only main difference is one has 1650x1050, the other 1280x800.

Personally I'm fine with the latter, since I always hook up to my widescreen 22" lcd when at home.

I'm glad Zepto made the 3415 available. Cheaper and currently only up to 14 days delivery. Plus, the option for 9 cell battery is good as well.

I'm still undecided wether I should go for the 667mhz or 800mhz RAM modules.

Edit: Found a translated review of the 3415 complete with pictures. http://translate.google.com/transla...fe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=/language_tools

Thanks for the review. The date for my purchase is fast approaching!

Does anybody know if there are any heating issues with this thing? I mean actual experience not the producers themselves assuring us that they won't sell anything capable of overheating :) I'm asking because apparently this was a problem on older models, and the 3415W is a lot of power crammed into a small frame...

The 3415W is not that small. Bigger then the 6625WD and alot bigger then the 6224W.

It is based on the Compal IFL90 barebone and there have been 2 reviews (check the compal forum) both saying it gets hot but doesnt over heat.

Has anyone even noticed the speed of the Hard drives. Zepto dont offer any hard drives above 100gb at 7200rpm, theyre all 5400rpm. What is GST? Is that some shipping tax duty delivery customs thing, it added an extra £132 ($260) onto the price of the laptop.

Wave, what do you reckon about the Compal barebones system? I was considering going for the Rizeon FL90 instead of a 6224 due to the massive price difference, down sides are it is bigger, hotter and blander but you cannot even get T7500 in the 6224 at the moment, i was condisering the below spec which would come in at £1008. what do you think?

Screen: 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) Glare Type Display
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
Warranty: 2 Year Collect and Return Insurance
    Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz 4MB L2
    Memory: 3GB DDR2 PC-5300 667MHz
Hard Drive: 160GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 512MB
    Optical Drive: DVD Super-Multi(DVD-RAM/-R/-RW/+R/+RW)

The IFL90 sounds like a good system. There are a few reports in the Compal and Segar forum. I like the 1440x990 screen. I am currently working on a non widescreen with 1400x1024 and I like it better then anything else.

Your configuration looks good. The Zepto version only has the 1280x800 screen. Zepto service is very good, not sure about Rizeon.

How curious- I've just ditched the Zepto for an FL90 from Rizeon myself (price)! I called Rizeon yesterday and service was very good- the guy I spoke to knew tech details to the detail and they seem really forthcoming on delivery etc.

Also, their warranty is insurance-backed, good to know and they ask you specifically what you want installed. No bloatware, yey! Oh and in case anyone is interested the FL90 E which I'm getting has GDDR2, not 3 as I read somewhere

I'll likely put up a feedback post when I get this beauty (gonna be at least two weeks as I'm going away for a bit), see if I can give something back to this forum as a thankee for all the excellent advice I've been getting here!

Both the Zepto laptops and the IFL90 have memory running at 400mhz (Asus G1s and Macbook pro runs at 700mhz). Doesnt matter if one is GDDR2 and the other GDDR3. Speed is the same.
