My friend has a 6314 with the slot-in drive, bought in Dec. '06, and starting in around February, it started making god awful noises while spinning the disk. It is now also very unstable, in that it doesn't always want to read disks.

Is this a known problem and is it easy to fix (relatively permanently)? She cannot get it serviced until late June/early July, and is considering to simply replace it with a normal tray drive, if it's possible.

Also it is possible to replace the drive with a tray drive if she wanted one of those instead.
