    Hello (again)

I'm having problems with my DVD drive for my zepto (again).

Vista recognizes my dvd drive but says there is a code 10 problem in the device manager (little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark) and the drive's not shown in windows explorer.

I used to have a similar problem in WinXP, it wasn't recognized in the device manager but when you clicked on "look for new devices it would detect the sony drive and it would work fine.

But this doesn't work with vista and so I can't get the da** drive to work. I tried booting with a cd, with a dvd, without ... nothing seems to do the trick.
I tried reinstalling the firmware with the drivers on the zepto ftp but when I launch the .exe it says there is no sony drive.

This is very very annoying. I don't know what to do...
Can anyone help me out here. (i'm inches away from throwing the laptop out the window...)

Does it show up in the bios? Does it spin up when you insert a disk? any noise?

Is it still on warranty? I think you should send it in. I dont think it is a software problem. If you cant boot from cd then its a hardware problem.

It shows up in the bios.

And yeah it does make spinning noise when I insert a disk.

I haven't tried to boot with a CD (i'll give it a go right now). --> I tried booting with a vista installation CD and it worked fine so I rebooted. And now it's detected by windows explorer just like nothing happened.
I don't know if it's because I booted with a bootable cd in the drive or what, but I'd like the thing to work everytime I boot ....

I have a 3 yr warranty so it is still covered I suppose but I use my pc everyday, I can't really afford to have it gone for I don't know how long ..

I am not sure if Zepto does it but you can ask them and try....

If the DVD drive can be taken out easily only send them the drive and they can send you a replacment.

The easiest is to contact Zepto Luxembourg if that was where you purchased the laptop to begin with. They'll tell you what you need to know :)

Ok I'll guess I'll do that.

I thought maybe I wouldn't have to do that since that drive is the one that equipped all the Z's with slot in drives up to now.
But alright ! Thanks for the info.

I'll keep this post up to date so it can help others with the same problem if there happens to be some.

    I get the same error.

It works when I boot with a disc in the drive. When i get the code 10 error I can put a disc into the drive, and go to device manager and deactivate and activate the drive. With no disc in the drive I have to deactivate/activate multiple times.

As far as I have understood Sony says it's a problem with the Zepto BIOS, and Zepto says it's a problem with the Sony Firmware. :(

Did you do a bios or firmware update? because it used to work like expected at first right? I dont think it can just because incompatable over time if you dont change anything....

well my bios has been updated a couple of times with zepto bios, but it didn't change anything then.

And this weekend I updated the firmware with the sony drivers on the Zepto ftp, well I tried. Then when it worked again, I tried updating firmware and it worked... the only thing is that the firmware installed was the same version as the update so I doubt it'll change anything.
