Hello,
Hope I'm asking this on the correct forum...
By the end of the year I'm planning to buy a notebook. I'm going to use it for surfing the net, administration tasks and programming. So my needs are:
1) Good cpu, dual core
2) Plenty of ram, because I use VMWare to emulate Windows in my Linux
3) Integrated graphics is sufficient because I don't play much games and if I want to I still have a desktop available
4) Good battery life, need to take it with me to work on the road
So the 2 notebooks that are sufficient for my needs are:
Znote 2225W
* 15.4'' WXGA (1280x800)
* Intel 950 graphics
* intel pro wireless 3945 a/b/g
* Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
* 60 GB HD at 7200 rpm
* 9 cell battery
=> 1300,65 euro incl. VAT (lu.zepto.com)
Znote 6014W
* 14'' WXGA (1280x768)
* Intel 950 graphics
* intel pro wireless 3945 a/b/g
* Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
* 60 GB HD at 7200 rpm
* 6 + 12 cell battery
=> 1443,25 euro incl. VAT (lu.zepto.com)
My questions are:
* are there any reviews out there concerning these laptops (I can't find any)?
* does someone have experience with one of those models?
* which one would you choose and why?
* other propopals?
Thx
-
here is a review: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3097&review=Zepto+6214W
If you are travelling with it a lot you will find the 6014 far more portable. I really llike my 6214. Its quick, well made, has a good screen and best of all its very well priced.
If its desk boundthough you will benefit from the bigger screen. -
I've ordered the 2225W.
I'll let you know what I think when (if) it comes on the 19th. -
Thx for the link famous grouse. The review looks very promissing.
Fpsg, I'm very interested in your experience (when it arrives). Because currently I'm leaning more to the 2225W because of the better price.
The only big differences with the 6014 I can find are:
1) The batteries: 12 cells vs 9 cells, but both giving 6h 30min of runtime (according to the info found on the site)
2) The screen size: 14'' vs 15.4'', but both of almost the same resolution so the viewing area of both screens should be the same.
So am I correct to say that it would be stupid to spent more money if I can get the same for less? Please correct me if I'm wrong here... -
the graphic card on the 2225w is a little bit underclocked, so it sucks for somebody who wants a little gaming laptop.
-
Gaming is not an issue for me, so no problem there...

My laptop is supposed to be delivered today but I have to go out.
For people in England who already have their Zepto's, which company delivered your laptop and what do you think they will do with mine if I'm not in when they come (i.e give it to a neighbour etc.). Cheeers. -
fpsg, did your laptop arrive yet? How is your overall feeling of it and what is the configuration you have?
-
I phoned up NUS, they said that Zepto weren't available to contact but would phone me back yesterday, but still nothing.
I typed in my code under repair status onthe zepto website and it says it was shipped on the 18th, but I certainly haven't received it. -
Just phoned again and it should be arriving tomorrow.
Apparently they had been trying to contact me to ask when to send it out.
WTF is that about?!? Clearly ASAP! -
Just got my laptop today and all is working fine so far.
Only problem I've encountered is that for some reason the "@" symbol has been swapped with the ' " ' symbol even though the keys don't show this. Can this be rectified without sending it back? I really don't want to do that.
Meanwhile if any of you can help me with my networking issues here that is much appreicated. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1589235#post1589235
Any questions about my laptop just ask although I'm, not much of a techy.
Configuration - 2ghx C2D, 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm -
im sure thats somethings to do with american keyboard settings, assuming you have a uk keyboard. When I make a fresh install of XP I always delete the american settings during the fresh install. Im not sure how to do it within windows but i may have put you on the right lines.
Im 100% sure its not anything wrong with the laptop. -
found it
goto: start menu, control panel, date time language and regional options, change the format of numbers dates and times. Make sure the option is set out to be UK rather than US -
I now have no faults with this laptop. -
How's the noise, as Zepto advertises 2225W as "silent". Does the fan run often? Is it noisy when it runs? Does it run at constant or variable speed? Does the fan start at full or low speed?
Zepto Znote 2225W or 6014W
