So this update doesn't fix the problem of the fan getting stuck in fast mode? Is that fix still in testing? Or is it that the 6x24W is a different series?

Good to hear such a news, but I just have a remark:

If you need/want to use a bios/boot-sequence password it is to protect your computer. I did the test and if you remove the bios battery the pasword become useless. I do not know if in other lappys it is like this but I think this feature is not really protective.

Sorry in advance to be fussy, especially if this feature is behaving like this in other laptops.

John, the 6x24W-series is a completely different series from the 6x14W-series which runs with another BIOS.
We are currently testing a BIOS for the 6x24W-series which is made to fix the fan issue, but we need to do extensive testing as the fan issue is a periodic issue.

gueuze, it's the same on all laptops where you can remove the battery. For us as manufacturers it's a good thing to be able to remove the password by removing the battery when it's in for repairs. It's exactly how we want it, but now people can at least password protect their machines as a lot of people have wanted for a long time.

    Yay! Thanks!

    @gueuze
Sure, it's no 100% protection - if someone stole your book the password is no barrier. But for timespans of 15-20 minutes it's more secure than just using a windows password (boot from any Linux Live-CD or external HDD and you'll have full access to the data). Keep in mind that I'm talking about curious co-workers, family members, girl friends aso. and not ppl from CSI or Chuck Norris. ;)

Thanks for your clarification, in my mind the password option would be something quite secure especially against robbers.
Now just hope I will not have a new experience with unattended visitors at home :D

I got a remark regarding the z1.25 bios that should fix the backlight. It is true that it has two different light options if it runs on battery or if it is plugged into the wall. But it does not save what level it has been set on when it last was plugged into the wall. Every time I restart my 6214 I have to turn on more backlight which I did not needed to do before when I had the old bios, I think it was the z1.22 bios.

I have an annoying problem with z1.26.

After updating the computer freezes every 2nd time i reboot, at the system utility "bios" screen at the very beginning... just freezes... if I then turn it off and on, it will load up windows and run without any problems... until I reboot again next time.. it then freezes again... quite annoying.

I guess I'll try to go back to z1.25 tomorrow.

I have the exact same problem! I was just about to upgrade to Z1.26 because I thought it would fix the problem but it seems Z.1.25 started the problem for me since I just recently upgraded to that version, and that's when the problems started

The two occurrences of this problem I've ever heard of are thomaskc.dk and insats. I think something else might be wrong with your machines that the BIOS update. Have you tried thoroughly testing your machines RAM and HDD's?

Actually I just got my laptop back from Zepto support (denmark), where it got a new motherboard and a full test... wierd thing though.. i put up with the wierd freezing, and now it has stopped all by itself, it did it like 4-5 times, but now it boots normally again.

No clue whats going on, but it seems it has become less of a problem for me now ;)

Thought id let people know.. last night, i had to reboot due to software installation, and it froze again at the bios screen, first time since my last post. It seems it happens during system reboot, and not shutdown and repower.

    I don't think so

It's happened to me that I've rebooted and the bios froze. After I manually (using the power button) shut it off, and turned it on again, it froze again. On the third attempt I got into vista
