What you will lose when doing this?
NVStrap doesn't support S3/S4 power saving modes by design! So you won't be able to resume the system from Suspend-to-RAM / Hibernate modes when PCI DeviceID programming is in use.
Therefore I have not applied ANY forum standby fixes i.e. sleep and then test etc.... These tests are done from a fresh startup.
1. Install Riva Tuner (RT)
2. Open RT and go to NVStrap pannel (in the "Target Adapter" section)
3. If you don't have NVStrap Drivers installed click the "Install" button.
4. In the PCI DeviceID settings chose "custom" and check "Use ROM straps....." box.
5. Use the select menu to locate device '0402 (NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT)' the hit apply.
6. !DO NOT REBOOT OR SELECT ANYTHING!
-
Goto Start->Control Panel->Program and Features->Nvidia Display Driver->Remove->No (When prompted for a reboot) OR you can use your own driver wiping utility though I
have had no issues with Nvidias for about a year...
7. Go back to Riva Tuner and select 'Yes' to the reboot
8. Windows will now install the 'Standard VGA Adapter' drivers, wait for this to be completed.
9. Locate and install the latest drivers as you would for a desktop from Nvidia.com then restart

Whats the benefit of masking it as a 8600GT? Better performance or fully compatible with desktop drivers? Also any specific drivers on the device before masking it?
-
Hi,
Benchmarks are above for this under : Benchmarks & Testing ---EXPERIMENTAL--- 8600GT ---EXPERIMENTAL--- -

What the heck is up with that "reserved" thing in 2 posts. Why don't you just edit the first?

I do not know the posting size limit.... Standard for an expanding topic.

Would you please make an guide to remove the desktop mod? I've tried removing nVstrap and all installing new drivers and such but I have a constant problem with my hibernation/stand by.... It seems my computer just crash when it hibernates and sometimes with a blue screen of death...
