    Hi,

    I am considering buying a 6615WB
    * 15.4" WSXGA+ skærm 1680x1050
    * nVidia Geforce Go 7600 512MB grafikkort
    * Intel® Core2™ Duo2.00Ghz
    * 2048MB Ram
    With the Slot in dvdwriter

This thing is, i cant find any information on the response time of the display.
Many have asked about the if the display is mate/glossy, but i have only seen og few conserned about the response ms time.

I called Zepto in denmark, and they knew sqwat, a bit disapointing really, since they advertise this computer as a "gaming" laptop. But good specs are one thing, the screen has to be able to follow.

I have a few questions on about the display, and on general use of this model. I would be very thankfull for any answers or input.

    questions are the following.
What is the response times of the display?
Is there any "ghosting" in games like WoW and BF2?
How is the brightness and contrast?
    How are the viewing angles?
How is dvd playback at 1680x1050, is artifacs/viewing angle a big problem?
Is the slot-in dvd writer any good?

Please include any additional thoughts if any.

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Cheers :)

Actually it's a samsung LTN154P1-L03. I don't know about the quality of this particular display but try google to see how it performs.

I havethe 6214w with the slot loading drive and i would get a normal one next time. It does its job fine it just really isnt that swish. Its quite noisy when you load and remove discs and sometimes it makes a bit of noise in operation.I thought it was going to be like a car cd drive but it isnt. I would just get the normal one and save the money. Thats my only real complaint though for my zepto.
Screen wise, i was pleasently suprised. There were some dodgy reviews going round so i wasnt expecting much but it really isnt that bad. Its bright, viewing angles are good, has no dead pixels and i have yet to notice any real ghosting in games.

    Thanks stanley009,
    I found the same info.
25/35ms respons time seems a bit in the high end.

If anyone has any first hand experience with this model laptop, i still would like to hear from you.

    Thanks,

If that is the case, then it might be okay. It bugs me that none of the reviews i have read, comment on how the screeen performs.

The only little issue with this screen was the vertical viewing angle.

i have a 6615wd. screen is excellent, no ghosting and 1650x1080 is an awesome looking resolution, especially when compared to other 15" laptops that have lower res screens. also how is vertical viewing angle a problem with a laptop? tilting screens anyone?

I'm looking to order a 6615wd by the end of the week.

Can someone confirm for definite whether the screen is a matte or glossy finish? Also, any coments as to reflective properties would be welcomed.

    Much obliged.

I was told by a zepto support employee, who had a 6615WD himself, that that model laptop does not come with glossy finish. Something to do with the glossy finish being limited to a certain maximum pixel number. And you still cant choose glossy finish, when ordering the laptop online.

So i guess that pretty definate.

Comments about the reflective properties. The sales rep i had a conversation with, about this laptop, was unhappy about not being able to get glossy finish on his 6615. He said he had seen it on other models, and he thought it looked f**king fantastic. He was talking movies, games ect. But he also noted that he normally used his computer in the dark.

My personal oppinion regarding glossy finish, is "No Thanks". The glaring properties of glossy can really damage my calm.
I work in an office that have the afternoon sun, other than the office getting hot as hell, the sun really made my eyes suffer back when i used to have a 19" CRT trinitron.
After i got an lcd, i still get direct sunligt on my display, and it is annoying, but the reflections are all gone.

One of me mates has an Asus laptop with glossy, a really sweet 14". And when i was helping him set it up, i notised the reflections.

But it is really op to the user. Oppinions differ allot from user to user. I would suggest going to a store that sells laptops and trying to compare and make up your own mind. Try taking 1 or 2 of your favorit dvd's with you and ask if you can try em out.

Holy cwap,, i wrote allot. hmm anyway, hope you can use some of what i wrote. But to sum it up, "Glossy or not, is in the eye of the beholder" Dunno if that makes sense, but i think it sounds cool. :p

    Cheers

Thanks for that. I agree wholeheartedly about matte over glossy screens: I find any reflections very distracting; the shine much more straining on the eye and I like the flexibility to work in any light conditions.

Having spent some considerable time shopping for my laptop these last few weeks, I've been very surprised and dissapointed how few machines come with matte screens any more, at least those that are above entry-level.

Now I'm confident the 6615 has a matte screen, that's the final deal-breaker. I'll put in my order tomorrow.

BTW, i just wanted to add something i asked Zepto Denmark about yestoday.
(Over the phone, so i guess they can deny it untill i get it in writing (i know i sound negative allready, but ill explain))

Short version: If your get a dead or defective pixel on your brand new zepto within 14 days of purchase, you get a new display.

Attempt at a short version (but still shorter that the normal version):
Okay. I resently helped buy a laptop for a female friend of mine. She was on a tight budget, so a we went with an Acer laptop. 1.6celeronM cpu, 1gb ram, 80gb harddrive 15'4" widescreen. Okay nice specs for someone only needing it for her studies.

I get laptop home, open it, install os and some app's. When i testplay a dvd i see it, NOOOO a f***ing defective pixel right in the middle of the screen. The screen is all black exept for a little green dot stearing me right in the face, taunting me... GRRR.. This i really annoying, if only it was totally burned out and was black, but it is GREEN.

Already long story i know, ill get to the point.

14 working days and many call to acer support later i found out that not only was i misinformed and was told i could just send it in under the "Urgent Warrenty" and get it fixed, i find out that I CANT GET THE SCREEN REPAIRED.

They have a policy that says a certain number of defective pixels are acceptable and bla bla bla..

I experienced this once 4-5 years ago when i spent 12.000dkr on a 20,4" lcd display from view sonic, and was gutted, when i found out i couldnt get a new display and had to live with the defective pixel.

I hadnt seen one single defective pixel for years (i know i must be lucky), but i really thought that defective pixels was a thing of the past. With Samsung being the first to have a "No dead pixel" garantee.

So i panic, now that i am looking to buy a Zepto myself, i called and asked them, what if i get my new Zepto, open it, and discover there is a dead or defective pixel on the display. And you know what they said? :)

They said "If you have a defective pixel when you get your laptop, or get one within 14 days of purchase, you can return it, at get a new one. But after the 14 days, the normal (X amount of pixel per Mpixel rules apply)
I was very much at ease again. And happy to know that Zepto respects its costumers enough to give them a new display if your brand new one has a defect.

I am sorry for making this post so long. I thing this was also me venting my anger and frustrations about Acers abolute lack and total disrespect for its costumers.. But thankfully Zepto wont do the same... i hope.

Maybe i should copy'n'paste the point of this insanly long post at the beginning hehe.

Guys just to sum up it is the samsung panel found here that we use

    http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/NotePC/LTN154P1/LTN154P1.htm

and i know because i personally picked it because its the best WSXGA panel onthe market but also 30$ more expensive than the next one.

I can't remember the revision we are currently on it may be L3, but i do remember that the upgoing refresh is 8 and up/down 25

also the brightness and viewing is a bit better than the 1st revision which was put in service mid 2005 if i remember correctly

you find the spec here http://uk.zepto.com/Default.aspx?page=ComponentDetails&componentid=Ts1iZk3MIWv - which is done by clicking the (I) right next to the screen in the configurator at time of the post i could see we are actually under advertising the viewing as 20/20/60/60 when it was actually 50/50/60/60 even from the 1st revision of the panel ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The screen is really good, display angles are great and there's no ghost even when playing high fps games (no ghost with trackmania even with 60 FPS++).

I just wanted to add. In denmark at least, there is currently a "Super campagn" on the 6615WD.
There is a 433kr online purchase discount.
1gb -> 2gb ram upgrade at no extra cost.
and from 80gb -> 100gb harddrive upgrade at no extra cost.

That was really what was the dealbraker for me. Now they just need to make the **** thing. :)
Its set for delivery the 7th.. but thats a saturday.. no package post on saturday.. so i guess, if everything goes smooth with no delays, ill have it monday. /sigh... if i only had it friday.. /cry

    Morten HELP ME
/whisper i hope he falls for it, and hurries my order allong so ill get it with the post on friday. hehe

    Cheers all

Where are all the people that were going to review the 6615? I'm still waiting for that ...

I am doubting very much between buying a compal HEL80 and this Zepto...
But I can find much more info about the compal then about the Zepto. Especially about build quality, heat control etc ...

Who can help me out here??

I dont care much for CPQ laptops, or the other better know brands. You pay too much for them from what i have seen. But then again, i dont look at the popular brands anymore, so maybe i miss some good offers.
