I have an interesting situation. I got this computer for Christmas and am extremely happy with it, in fact so much so that I have been recommending it to people I know who are in the market. A friend got his today, and I was setting everything up for him (hes a noob) and I noticed that my laptop has a fan which never shuts off, while his is running whisper quiett. I know my way round computers pretty well, and I learn by doing, so I have delved into this computer more than the average man. I was fiddling with overclocking, undervolting, etc etc, so it might be related, but I would love to have a program which can control the fan. I tried speed fan but it doesnt recognize our mobo and a little fiddling didnt change anything. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE anyone who knows anything, throw me a bone!

    Thanks

    Alex

Is your BIOS up to date? I myself have a 6214 and I know there have been fan problems with it which where solved with the latest BIOS, v1.17 I believe. I've got mine for almost 3 weeks now and the fan hardly ever kicks into full speed, even when playing intensive 3D games.

I'd post a link here but for some reason I can't connect to Zepto's ftp site for the moment...

Yeah, I figured it might be the BIOS, and I checked my friends computer, and indeed, he has BIOS version 1.09 while I have 1.07. So this could be the answer. But youre right, the zepto download site seems to be having problems.
Ill keep trying and see if I eventually get through.

dyce, do the two systems exhibit different fan behavior while in the same room/environmental conditions?

Room temperature may be playing some part in the different fan behaviors. Otherwise, overclocking is definitely going to raise your temperatures a bit and may be responsible as well.

Yes, Chris, i had both laptops next to each other on the table, and mine sounded like an airplane landing while his was whisper quiet. I ended up updating the BIOS today, and the first time I started up, the fan was quiet. But i shut the lid, it went into standby, and upon opening up again, voila, louder than ever! Restarted, same sound level. I don't get it....and as far as overclocking is concerned, i messed around with coolbits, but ending up just changing it back to "no overclock", since at the time I was thinking about undervolting, which I have learned is relatively useless with a core 2 duo. Its not even like its so important, but it had been annoying me and now that I know it is something specific to my machine, i wanna figure it out!!!!

Perhaps the fan is hitting something while it is spinning or is not properly seated.

I'd recommend a quick email/call to Zepto support.

    Hey,

I just got word from the technisian of Zepto, he found out that one of my fans inside the 6615WD was stuck, that caused the problem that my Laptop freezes while playing games like WoW and C&C3.

That also caused that my fan was on all the time with hot air.
