We are keen to try and replicate some of the issues that you guys could be having with the fan control on the 6X25 models. We are going to set up some machines with different configurations to try and replicate the potential issues. If we find an issue then of course we can work on a solution to them. We DO take your cases very seriously so please do not think for one minute that we do not. If needed we will make a form that we will ask you guys to fill out with detailed information about what is happening with your individual notebook.

Your words are much appreciated here with my wife and I.

...now if we can only get you guys to make a new or supply
a new keyboard for the 6625wd...

Well, I just updated to 011, and I dont think its louder, it just turns on the fans a bit earlyer, and turns off them a bit later. If you would be kind and set it to turn off the fans at maby 53/54 C then it would be just as quiet as it were with 008

I will keep you guys updated on what is happening

It could be that I need some clear details from all of you especially which CPUs you are using, and if you are experiencing the exact same issues

Luckily I can see from your posts which you 3 guys have!

Ok, listen up, I'm really tired of this, I WANTTT SLFM (super low frequency mode), because it's a Santa Rosa feature, and one of many reasons I bought this laptop! But I will not use it, if I have to listen to loud fans. HECK, EVEN at SLFM, the fan kicks in!! UNBELIEVABLE. At least kick in when doing crazy CPU related things at 1.250V, and not 0.850V SLFM!

well, I also find that a bit wierd, but one thing has been bugging me, my OS (Vista Prem.) never goes below 20% according to RMClock, and I find this disturbing, as it didnt do that when I first got the lappy, but after my first upgrade to 008 it started doing 20%+ all the time, and thats what keeps turning my fans on...

    no problem :D

oh btw, now that im using the new RMClock beta with support for Santa Rosa, using that with 011 and SLFM makes it say that my clock goes to around 8000 sometimes?? and the trottle has peaked to 10 000 one time, but when its in 9.0x (highest for 7100) it just goes to 1789 and 1800?

okay I just saw the core clock go to 24 000 and trottle to 16 000...

Use the processes tab of Task Manager to see what is keeping the CPU busy. My 6024W (also Vista Home Premium) is cruising along at 0.9V 800MHz and less than 5% CPU usage.

Have you got several web pages open and one or more of these has got some flash stuff on it? That will keep the CPU busy even if you are off-line. Personally I would ban flash because it will drain the battery if given the chance. However, Firefox + FlashBlock does the necessary.

well, tasmanager doesnt say anything, only RMClock (5-10%), task manager (around 10-15%), and dwm.exe (desktop window manager (1-3%)) and system idle is active, other software only just to 1 or 2% and back to 0%. So im out of ideas. And I have tested turning RMClock off, same story, turning aero off, same story...

I was just looking at RMClock's CPU Info page and when my computer is under low load it is showing something like: CPU load 26%, OS load 8%.

This makes sense when you consider that the CPU is running at 800MHz, ie 40% of potential full speed, so its 40% of potential capacity at that speed. When CPU usage reaches 60% (or whatever you have set in the performance profile, then the CPU will speed up).

Is this the cause of your confusion?

Ok, since Rene said that the new BIOS for 6625 is closer to release than 6224, let's get this thread going again.

What do you expect from the new BIOS?

Obviously they'll fix the fans, let them kick in later, at higher temps, and maybe even let us have full control!

I'm really looking forward to it! I'll finally be able to have IDA and SLFM

Sprint; How's your fan when undervolting in BIOS-011? Does it help when undervolting? And do you see SLFM and IDA ?

The CPU usage never goes close to 0% because of the latency issues on the Santa Rosa platform, the new BIOS for the 6625WD is going to feature a fix for this also, so not only does the fans turn off more, the CPU usage will also fall to between 0-5% (on the machines we have tested on).

But you can't say anything about release date right? Before 2008 ? January?

Right now it looks like a January 2008 release, but these things can change fast if any problems are detected with the test BIOS we get from the ODM.

The BIOS development cycle seems to be a bit slow: The computers will be superseded before the BIOS is fully finished.

Perhaps there should be willingness to release intermediate versions which offer improvements even if there are further improvements in the pipeline. Such intermediate versions should have fewer issues than the BIOSes currently released.

I'm not completely updated on this. But is far as I know, there have been problems with a lot of earlier solved issues coming back in the BIOS-versions we are currently testing. For this reason, the new BIOS have been even worse that the current one and therefor have not been released to public.

I think René can give you a better update on this.

But why do you have to redo the BIOSes, cant you just fix a few problems in the versions and release a few bugfixes at regular times.
(I know you dont redo the whole BIOS but this is how it looks like to me)

I dont know if this belongs here, but my fan went wierd today :D

Now, it fires up at 58C cools down to 51/52 shuts off, starts again at 54C and cools to 46C????

Also, I somehow managed to get my core clock to 600MHz and throttle as low as 200 sometimes

In the past I have had problems with my 6024W mis-reading the CPU temperature as over 70C (when only around 50C) with the fan on full speed. Hibernation / resume or reboot usually clears the problem (once I had to do it twice).

Right, Im now using the 008, and I noticed one thing straight off. The reason why the ilding temp is much lower on 008 is, that the fan never turns off in 008, wich it does in 011.

Pretty much the same, thermostat set to 20C.
Laptop about ½ meter from nearest radiator and
perhaps 30cm from window (outside temp -2C).

Mine processor is always between 50 and 58 if not doing anything processor intensive things. Fans kick in when temperature gets to 57 or 58 and then cools down to 50 or something. It's T7500 and undervolted in Windows XP. It's pretty quiet too, not any kind of disturbing sound.

Of course, as some people have said, it would be nice to choose some temperatures when fans start and stop. But in conclusion I'm happy with this now.

    Ok, another possibly obvious question:

SLFM (Super Low Frequence Mode), where do you control this?
A brief search on the forums did't turn up gold some I'm hoping
you can send me in the right direction. I realize there's been
issues with this and the bios but it seems like you've had
    success with it. Thoughts?

SLFM is only available on the 011. When you select "power saving" in Vista it will automatically enter SLFM :)

So if it's only available on 011, how does the above work out if using 008?

...sorry for the basic questions, still trying to catch up on the techie
    learning curve!
