I notice the network option doesnt include the Intel 4965 AGN card - only the old Intel 3945 ABG and the Zepto card? The pdf of the system says that the 4965 AGN card should be an option, but its not on the site...?

I've been told its the GT and the same card on both the 6224 and 6625. The spec sheet says its GT too, although the model number confusingly has "GS" at the end of it.

We are adding the Intel 4965 AGN card at the moment , thanks for drawing our attention to that, Also to put the GT/GS situation to rest, Our origional specification sheets said GS but we have been contacted by Nvidea to say that it IS a 8600 GT. This should be updatesd on all of our websites and different specification sheets that we have to avoid any further confusion

    My config:

    14,1" WXGA+ 1440x900 - 6224W (100302)
    NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT Info Text (800104)
Keyboard Znote 6x14W Black UK (170078)
    Environment Fee (300108)
    2.20 GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo T7500 800MHz (120627)
    2 GB DDR2 PC6400 Original Zepto Ram (130132)
    160GB Hybrid 2,5" 5400RPM - SAMSUNG (140103)
    6 + 12 Cell battery (250323)
    Intel Pro/Wireless 4965AGN (260029)
    Microsoft® Windows® XP Pro UK (200011)
DVD-RW Dual Layer DVD Burner Slide IN (150121)
    24 months pick up & return (300431)

I chose the Hybrid drive because of its size and its higher relative speed (despite being lower RPM), and because I understand it runs cooler than 7200 rpm drives (heat may be important for this mini beast). I got the extra 12 cell battery because I do quite a lot of long haul flights, sometimes in economy with no power outlet. And the extra money for the 24 month warranty was worth it to me for the peace of mind. I also prefer slide in DVD rather than the pop out tray. 2gig RAM and Intel Draft-N wireless were nobrainers for me.

    Petrov.

In the RAM section it says:

    2 GB DDR2 PC6400 Original Zepto Ram for £83.80

Now is this 2 x 1GB sticks or a single 2GB stick? I ask because I'd rather have 2 1GB sticks than a single 2GB stick. Similarly 4GB (2 x 2GB) of RAM is £211.08 which wouldnt add up if it was a single 2GB stick.

Similarly I've never bought from Zepto before. Do I have to buy the charger (in the accessories area) seperately or does one come with it and the option in accessories is a replacement charger?

Lastly, what does the 12 months pick up and return entitle me to? Is that a warranty (clicking the link provided no information)?

    Thanks for the info!

GSUK, I'm not a Zepto employee, but i did just order a 6224 and asked many
of the same questions as you.

I understand its 2x1Gb sticks. You don't have to buy the charger in the accessories, it comes with one (this is what i was told, so I suggested they clear up that confusion - similarly with the batteries).

The 12 month pickup and return is the warranty as far as I'm aware (I went for 2 yrs at only £25-odd extra).

I notice the configurator only gives you the choice of a black keyboard yet the picture has a grey one for the 6625, does the unit ship with black or grey because i like black better?

is the screen glossy or matte on the new laptops? The pics for the 6624 make it look matte.

Both the models Have an Ultracrisp(thats what they call it) display, the 14" 6224 has an extra layer to give it a matte finnish and the 6625 is more glossy

We are fixing the problem with the warrenty on the websites at the moment. Of course we have to give you a 12 month warrenty on the machine. You can then choose to upgrade to a 24 month or 36 month if you wish to. The 12 month pick up and return service is included in the price of the laptop, please let me know if the website is reflecting this

I see the new intel card. Does one need that and the new Core Duos to make up Centrino Pro?

    Santa Rosa platform (2007)

The code-name Santa Rosa refers to the fourth-generation Centrino platform, which was released on Wednesday 9th May 2007. The following features are included:

    • Second generation Intel Core 2 Duo (code-named Merom) mobile processor. The processor is similar to and still carries the codename Merom in common with that used on the NAPA platform although the new processors connect to the motherboard with Socket P.
    • 800 MT/s front side bus with Dynamic Front Side Bus Switching to save power during low utilization
    • Intel Mobile 965 Express chipset (code named Crestline) with Intel's GMA X3100 graphics technology and ICH8M southbridge
    • Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n mini-PCIe Wi-Fi adapter (code named Kedron)
    • NAND flash-memory caching branded as Turbo Memory (code-named Robson)
    • EFI, a successor to BIOS
    • Intel Dynamic Acceleration (IDA), better Windows Vista Aero support

The computer thus need to include the Intel wireless card in order to be qualified as a Centrino Pro branded computer; a way for Intel to make sure that the computer producers buy their components if they want to use the Centrino brand :) So if you would use the other wireless adapter offered when configured the computer it would not be a Centrino Pro computer (although there would be no practical difference between them).

To get Centrino Pro you need vPro as well.

If you use the CPU, chipset and wifi from Intel but no vPro it is just called Centrino Duo. vPro is pretty useless to most consumers. To me only the Virtulisation (VT) is interesting.

Any chance of seeing a review of the Zepto Santa Rosa laptops sometime in the near future? Am interested in their line, but existing reviews of previous Zepto laptops are few and far between.

The 'Centrino Duo' does Virtulisation (Vanderpool) doesn't it? The 'Centrino Pro' has the Active Management Desktop 2.5.

All Core 2 Duo CPUs can do VT. Atleast the faster ones with T7xxx. Even the last generation ones. But it needs to be activated in the bios. Most laptops bios did not support it maybe the new ones will. If it says Centrino Pro it has to support it. Atleast thats how I understood it.
Active Management Technology is also part of vPro yes.
