    Hi guys

As some of you know I am reviewing the Zepto Znote 6625WD for NBR quite soon. As you are the Zepto people and probably know more abut the brand than me I have opened this thread for any questions I may have.

First off are a couple of basics that I also posted in gaming:

    1. Are there any applications currently available that I can use to test DX10? I.e. games or 3d benchmarks etc. that require it?

    2. Does anyone know of any HD stuff, preferably on DVD i could get hold of (preferably free!) to test this thing with?

    Thanks

    Jess

ZUK - when do you guys think you'll have the first samples of the 6224W in? Any plans to have a reviewer do the same thing for the 6224 that Moon Angel is doing for the 6625?

    Thanks, as always!

    Petrov.

I'd like to see comments about fan control behaviour in "Heat & Noise" section, especially because they advertise 6625WD as quiet.

How many fans? Do fan/fans run always or do they stop sometimes?

Does the speed control have steps (if, how many) or is the speed/temperature curve continuous?

If fan doesn't run always, does it start on low or high speed?

Is the sound of the fan smooth or whiny? Some recordings, if possible.

Subjective comparison of noise at idle and at load to something that's generally considered as "quiet", like thinkpad T/R/Z series or HP business models.

Thank you, Keeperian, for the link, interesting review, especially concerning the heat of the notebook. Sooo...are we to understand that there is a problem with the keyboard? If I understood correctly, they said that it was too "thin"? Well, as long as it stays cool after hard gaming, I 'm happy with it :)... Of course, I would still like to read this forthcoming review.

No idea. As yet the laptop has not arrived and I am uncertain as to when it will. I'll keep you guys posted.

Also it's a 6615 chassis with 6625 hardware so it'll be mostly a hardware review.

I really wish there would be a "real" review soon, one that could account for the entire machine, it's important to me how the machine feels when working with it, and how it is to look at the screen for consecutive hours.

A hardware review is good aswel, but I had hope Zepto would send you a complete machine :)

Apart from the usual 3Dmark05, 06 and PC mark 05 theres SiSoft sandra, HD tune, Battery eater pro, mobile mark and you could time it ripping a dvd of say an episode of the simpsons for example using a GNU rippping program.

Also i would like to see game benchmarks if you can, Quake 4, HL2, Oblivion, Doom 3, CnC3, Supreme Commander, Far Cry. (obviously the more the better but a few of these taxing games would be nice)

Also heat is a big issue for me so dont forget temps! And screen quality too, im used to low res glosssy so whats high res matte gona be like?

Ur sooooo lucky u get to do this! Not fair :p !! Id love to get my hands on a centrino pro laptop. Howd u get it anyway, u get asked? Also do u get to keep it afterwards?

edit: forgot to mention a seen a demo with DX10 rendering a waterfall in real time. Mabye you can get a demo like that and run it full screen with fraps?

I'll do a rip test certainly of some sort.

I'm afraid I don't have any of those games and I'm not buying them just for this as I don't have that kind of money. I might be able to get a copy of Doom 3 to test, otherwise I have BF2... I'll see what I can borrow from friends. Quake 4 is a possibility, FEAR will be too.

I have no idea what the screen will be, as it's a 6615 chassis it might not have the screen the 6625 will have. We'll see. I'll certainly talk about it.

It came up as a review opportunity. As one of the only European mods I got priority. As for keeping it it's unlikely, but I will certainly try!

I certainly intend to do that.

The main points of the review are of course all the new areas of hardware like the various different new features of santa rosa, which I will be doing benchmarks for, stuff like cpu power in benchmarks and encoding, cpu throttling, battery life with the new platform, other deatures of the new platform (wireless?). The second main point is the new DX10 card so i will do as many game fps benches as possible, 3dmarks, pcmarks rendering tests and anything else i think relevant. If it has HD and/or a hybrid drive i'll do the same for them. It's going to be a long one I think!

Thanks for reply to all of my points moon angel.

I can understand you dont have all those games lol but anything helps really. FEAR Combat (free multiplier part of FEAR) is free so you could possibly bench that too.

Good luck for the review, i look forward to reading it.

    Looking forward to your review!
You can count on a review on the 6224 as well.
Delivery is expected to be in the beginning of June, so sometime in June I'll publish a review.
So...if anyone is interested in buying an Asus W1J in the beginning of June, contact me... ;)

Another thing I'd like to see tested is the difference in the battery life when undervolted and when not undervolted. I get 30-40min+ battery life after I undervolted my W3V and since it's on it's last legs I'm (probably) getting a 6224W later this summer..

What specs does the 6225WD you ordered come with Moon Angel? I'm sure it will feature in your review but just interested out of interest...

Also any update on when you will recieve it? A note to Zepto people, I'm holding out on buying one until I read this review, so get a move on. ;)

    Any progress? :)

As most people probably know, the delivery time of the 6625 has been set back a couple of weeks; are you under the impression that's the reason you've not received the laptop yet?

    Hi,

I am considering to buy a lap-top that i intend to use for 3D modeling, photo-processing and some gaming. After some search between the available products I am stuck between choosing the

Asus G1S with T7500 processor, 2 GB memory and 160 GB HDD (5200 RPM?) with NVidia GeForce 8600M GT (256 MB)

or the Znote 6625WD produced by Zepto, with same processor, 200 GB HDD with 7200 RPM, 2GB RAM, same grapic card but with 516 GB.

I am puzzled, because some say the Zepto screen is better than what the Asus has, the components are also better in the Zepto. However, what concerns the looks, the Asus is much superior, and it has HDMI output, and perhaps the construction is also more solid. Both lap-tops are at about the same price.

Does anyone have first-hand experience with both lap-tops, especially concerning screen quality? I could use some advice, I cannot really make up my mind....

Also, does the 516 MB of video memory make a significant difference, as compared to 256 MB?

What about the memory? Zepto offers the possibility of choosing 800MHz memory, however, on the Intel page, the T7000 series processors only support 667MHz type memory.. Did Zepto tweaked the T7500 processor?

Hope to get some good advices from you guys!
    regards!

Orban, get one of the new Merom processors for your 6625wd.
The 7200rpm hdd will be a very good choise.

Also, the screen of the 6625wd is very good for photos and 3d.

Re the 800MHz RAM, this works as 667MHz with the normal CL 5 latency, so it is a questionable investment.

Most of the praise for the the Zepto's this year has been mostly because of the screen. Supposed to be very good for editing according to reviews.

The G1s has a better graphics card, because of the reason above.
