yay one less manufacture means less computers exported to e-waste dumps which are then exported to 3rd world countries (notably China)

No, it just means the same number of computers will be dumped over time...but none of them will be Zepto.

As Danish law actually works contraire to other bankruptcy laws, Zepto has too make sure that ppl still get their warranty.

I remember getting a laptop from them, like 2 years ago when they were competitive with their prices/specs, which was there main appeal as it seems to me. Looking on their site now, they are charging too much for what they are offering. Even dell is way outdoing them for their prices. Shame to see a business go down the drain nonetheless.

This can't be unexpected. The last year or so has been difficult for any company which relied on gaming notebooks for a substantial part of their business. I suspect that the nVidia GPU problems can't have helped. Rizeon is another small company which is having problems.

Nor did the often way below-par service, the initial very poor choice in local resellers or the much needed but unfortunately poorly coded BIOS updates.

I can't believe the timing of this!

I've been sorting out a warranty repair for my 6625WD, which has been a fantastic laptop for the last 2 years until it died spectacularly a few weeks ago. Having finally got down to what I knew in that it needed a new motherboard, I got an email late yesterday asking me to phone their service department to confirm it was still in warranty. Still going to try tomorrow morning but now not keeping my hopes up

I seriously hope that nirana is right, otherwise I'm left with a very expensive paperweight that I can't afford to replace... and still have 11 months of warranty left.

Nirana, the difference here is that Zepto is both manufacturer and seller.
That link means that if you've bought a Samsung TV at Expert (Radio/TV seller), and Expert goes bankrupt, you will still have a warranty if you contact Samsung directly.
If we take that example and you buy a Zepto TV at Zepto, and Zepto goes bankrupt, then you would have warranty at Zepto.... but Zepto is bankrupt so there is no company to uphold the warranty for teh product when both seller and manufacturer is the same and gone bankrupt.

I don't know if that makes sense, but that's how it is. If there's no Zepto, then there's no company to help you with warranty on Zepto products.

The guy i know at Zepto says they where declared bankrupt friday around noon, that is why nothing has been changed on the website. The bankruptcy agent handling it all should be announced on the site during this week.

The general idea is that some of the funds is spared instead of sharing them with the creditors. Those funds are then used to purchase warranty services from a third party, usually some company that is specialized in service repairs.

Anyways, if I had a Zepto now I would already have it listed for sale somewhere... :-/

My Zepto 6625WD is at Zepto and I was promised a replacement pre-bankruptcy. I guess I have to wait until the administrator contact is given or do I just wave goodbye to GBP 1456?

I don't know exactly, but my guess would be that you need to contact the lawyers administering Zepto's funds when it is announced on their website to either get your unrepaired 6625WD back, or whatever your demand may be.

Oh no, I pray that my Zepto Mythos does not die on me now (yet again)! However, didn't Zepto outsource all their warranty and repair business to InfoCare? Or doesn't that matter?

This thread has put a smile on my face. Zepto are nothing but a lying, good for nothing company that honestly deserves to be bankrupted. They smashed a laptop of mine in the post and then tried to send it back to me. Good riddance to them is all I can say, they had it coming.

You ought to take into account that a lot of customers have felt that they were being kicked by Zepto.
Customer support, sometimes by Zepto Denmark, sometimes by local resellers contracted by Zepto DK, has been continuously horrid in multiple cases.
Continuously horrid customer support often tends to create very hostile emotions.

It's simply beyond belief that some shops like ZeptoUSA always have delivered excellent service and others have gotten away with way, way too much.
(I haven't found one single complaint about those ZeptoUSA guys, ever.)

A serious company defines the QoS-standard for local resellers.
It shouldn't have to be set by a reseller.

    @ Baserk - well said.

Zepto "deserves" this, they were incompetent, rude and arrogant, at least in my case. You cant have a successful business based on the above.

    Hi all,

I am one of the lucky ones who currently have their laptop in repair with InfoCare, and by the sounds of it resolving issues will become complicated, not really looking forward to this mess. I purchased the laptop from a U.K. based retailer, my question now would be if the retailer or the manufacturer is liable for complying with warranty according to U.K. regulations.

    cheers,

    Marc

macrsc, well in this case Zepto was the manufacturer, but you could try and contact the retailer if this was another company than Zepto. If Zepto where both retailer and manufacturer, then you have a big problem.

In UK I believe the responsibility for warranty service lies with the retailer and, if they can't help, with the credit card company (if you paid by credit card).

Awwww sorry to hear the bad news for Zepto ! I was just about to contact them to buy a new battery for my Zepto 6214W. My actual battery died just recently, going from 1h15 minutes to 10 minutes.

Does anyone know where I could buy a compatible battery elsewhere ?

edit : found one on ebay but geez 99$ is way out there in the no-no-i'm-not-paying-that-much-for-a-3-yr-old-laptop range. :/

Am not familiar with your model, but if you can figure out a way to open the battery case, the cells can be replaced... often with higher capacity ones. It's a cheaper way to go and you would have to do some soldering... good luck.

Yes they are, is that risky ?
I don't know where else I can buy a new battery for my 6214W, whatever the price.

If you have an answer, I'd be glad to hear it. Zepto Europe was my first option but we know what the situation is.

There is always the battery fixing but I don't have the adequate tools.

I have realised that without zepto I have nowhere to source my drivers. Granted the major components are easy to find, but the SDHC compliant driver, infrared and webcam won't be too easy to come by, wonder if anyone have a copy of drivers and maybe we are able to put it up in some online storage place?

Yes I know, but where else can I get a 6214W battery ? There is no more Zepto for France/Europe and I didn't see any available on the USA website (considering you guys even ship to Europe).

Do you have any other option ? (I have no tools for soldering)

    @REB!
alliao is talking about the drivers for the 6625WD he has, which does feature a webcam driver and software (Bisoncam).
Also with the Windows 7 drivers for the Nox, Mythos, Nexus, G14/G15 line there was released a new Amcap and driver which actually had decent framerates.

Stay tuned for a place to keep downloading the drivers for the Zepto products.

Does anybody know when a backup of all the current drivers for the zepto will be available?

This is quite bad for those still have warranties but its not that surprising since their products, especially the after sales services wasnt that great in europe and certain countries.

Plus focusing solely on gaming but with a product which had some nagging problems are sure to put you into financial trouble.

You could try windows skydrive which currently has 25GB of space. But i dont know how it would hold up to alot of net traffic.

Or zeptousa could take over the library of drivers since they are still servicing customers and it would be prudent to have the drivers on hand for their customers since their download page was linked to the main zepto site.

crapp0, skydrive was under consideration during the process we've been through before making the final decisions out how to host, but a 25GB skydrive only just covers half the space needed. Also we contacted MS about the expected traffic from the statistics from the old Zepto FTP and they would shut down the skydrive within less than an hour because of excessive traffic use.

The link for the new site will be posted in here as soon as it's up running. It features a new layout also, which to me makes more sense than the old one. But you'll just have wait and see if you agree.

As long as it has the drivers from the zepto's driver site, i dont think alot of ppl are gonna complain that much on its layout.

I'm quite surprised that 25GB isnt enough, so the new site will contain the entire collection of zepto drivers?
