    hello all at notebookreview

    i have a 4gb 2.53ghz p8700 gt 130m zepto 14 inch machine

the computer doesnt get hot but the fun spends most of its time at a loud speed making a lot of noise.

i tried bios update , speedfan , configuring a power plan to maintain consumption low and nothing .

i can have office open thats all and the computer ocasionally (very very randomly) puts the fan on turbo for seconds then stops.

    i have win7 64 installed

    help

    thank you

Did you try undervolting the CPU using RMClock? See the undervolting guide. You will need the 64-bit signed driver. There's a link to this at the end of the first post. Also check the CPU temperatures using HWmonitor. These may show if the CPU is not being cooled properly because the heatsink has not been mounted properly. I would expect to see an idle temperature below 40C if the fan is running.

Most likely your fan is worn out. My g14b is now on it's second fan. The first one lost it's lubrication and became noisy within a month of purchase. I constantly monitor the second fan and lube it periodically.

BTW, am not aware of a bios update... where did you find it?
    thanks,

    hi

    thanks for the quick updates!

that really brings hope back to my zepto.

davevelo ive been at the zepto ftp ( ftp.zepto.dk ) and the bios update file is gone!!

actually the file is for the g15, but ive been told it does the job for the g14 model. the file is G15_4638_bios.iso

i dont seem to find it on the internet, if u need me to send it to you let me know...its a 250mb file..

    THANKS,ill try those 2 options!

btw, the replacement fan, was it hard to get a new one??

    junoreactor, you're welcome.

About the BIOS update, it appears that G15-4638.iso was released on 5/26/2009 see: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=384721&page=5. Not sure what this means exactly since the date of my BIOS is 8/5/2009. Perhaps a fellow poster can clarify? If true, it's possible that you have down-dated your BIOS? BTW, what was g15-4638 supposed to correct?

About replacement non-zepto fans, I found that Acer Aspire 9500 Series ADDA Fan "AB0705HB-EB3" can be made to fit but modifications are quite extensive.

the update didnt do any visible changes to the bios menu, nothing that i noticed..

i had a problem (and i still have) with the battery icon on my zepto, so i did the update to see if i could fix it...

someone at zepto told me to update without the battery , but it didnt do any changes...

    hope that helps..

I thought it was the opposite: The BIOS update checks to see if the battery is present before it runs. Otherwise there is the risk of a dead computer if the mains power stops while the BIOS is being rewritten and there is no battery to act as a backup power supply.
