I see that the Zepto configuration options include not only a 320GB HDD but also a 500GB with (currently) "delivery up to 23 days". The cost is £42.47 more than the 320GB HDD which is £26.55 more than the 250GB HDD (prices including 17.5% VAT).

Can Zepto confirm the make of the 500GB ( Samsung? ).

    John

    PS: There's also a 250GB 7200rpm HDD "delivery up to 54 days".

As only samsung make a standard sized 2.5" hd, I'll assume it is indeed from them as the hitachi one is to thick.

It's going to be Samsung. At least to begin with.

In the dansih pressrelease you can read this:
"”Zepto er utrolig hurtige til at reagere på markedsefterspørgslen og til at indarbejde ny teknologi i
deres produkter. Derfor har vi valgt at lade Zepto være de første i Europa til at tilbyde de nye store
harddiske”, siger Charles Hacker, Samsung Semiconductor Europe Ltd"

    translated it means:
"”Zepto is very fast to respond to the markets demand and to incorporate new technology into there products. That is why we have chosen Zepto to be the first in Europe to be able to offer the new big hard drive”, says Charles Hacker, Samsung Semiconductor Europe Ltd"

However, the ZeptoUSA site says the 500GB is Hitachi! And, while the European site has a 250GB 7200rpm, the USA site has a 400GB 5400rpm.

The Zepto USA site is fully administered by the retailer, where as all other Zepto websites are administered by Zepto themselves, so any incorrect information on the Zepto USA site is the retailers "fault".
Yes the 500GB is a Samsung.

Because Zepto USA buys at the local US channels it is possible that we offer other components as Zepto in Europe does.
We have looked into this issue and the information is indeed incorrect. This is adjusted to the Samsung harddrive.
We had imported the wrong item number... oops :)

Also we have added the 250GB 7200rpm Harddrive.

Any questions or comments in the future regarding components or possible errors on our site, please let us know...

    thanks

Thanks for the clarification about the 500GB.

I'm still intrigued by source of the 250GB 7200rpm since I can't find any manufacturer's announcements about these.

    Samsung 250GB 7200rpm : http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/080304/20080304006283.html?.v=1

It is only released for OEM manufacturers at this moment. Maybe that's the case that you can't find it online.

    Thanks.

I've now found Samsung's announcement. So Samsung decided to move into the 7200rpm market with something bigger (and should be faster) than the opposition!

However, no specs are posted yet, but both of these should be good performers.

I don't have the specs either. The only thing we know is that it's a 7200rpm drive with SATA2 interface and 16MB cache. That's all that is released for now.

I see that the 500GB HDD has now almost arrived - it is showing as green and available in 4 days.
