    Hi!

I tried searching the about this but didn't find a straight answer.

    My question is:

If you order a Zepto with any Windows Vista, is the OS ready to run or do you have to put your user name, time zone etc before booting "into Vista"?

    Thanks for all your answers.

I had to select a language too.

Afterwards a (long) installation/configuration process starts.

When all is finished you have a nice vista installation without any bloatware.

Yeah its basically like installing the OS from a disk but now the files are already copied to the HDD

All you pay for is the Windows License and a Vista Disc.
You don't pay them for actually have the Deployment install on the HDD, thats just a nice service.

I was surprised when i got my Zepto, that it actually worked out of the box and i didnt have to do the "install" myself. Turn the machine on and the Install was mostly done, only Language selection, Time, User well the basic "customization" during install was the only things a person had to do.

It's called out of box experience. Windows has it built in when you install on a new computer, or if you run the sysprep utility for ease of deployment. Basically Zepto will have a master image they just copy to each computer so when the end user gets it it runs a mini setup ui to start with which allows end users to customise their settings (username, timezone, language etc.) Not really much of a service from Zepto, but then you are paying for the licence and media not the installation. they couldn't possibly know what username you want and shouldn't even guess at the language/time zone you want.

I know what it is... I work with alot of Deployment scenarios everyday.
The service i mention (and think they ARE giving) is that they've made it as an Out Of Box computer, and not just stuck a install dvd along.

Here with Zepto NL it costs:
32 bit Windows Vista Business: 113,-
32 bit Windows Vista Business with installation: 165,-

And a OEM-disc from a webshop will cost you about 125,-

So I only gonna order the disc and put Windows Vista on my laptop myself ;)

I can see Zeptoshop.nl is very different from Zepto Denmark.
    And ZeptoUSA for that matter.
Our shops don't come with a Install or No Install option.
"Installation/Out of Box Installation" is incl. in the price for a windows license, in our shops.
    So for us it's free.

    Thanks for the responses, lads!

The reason i'm asking this is because i'm wondering if i can return the incoming Mythos if it doesn't please me. The problem is that it has Home Premium preinstalled and the shop wasn't willing to remove it.. I may not be able to return it if i press the power button once.

That is if i don't switch the HD for that time and install my own OS.

You can reset the OS to factory defaults with the recovery disk that comes with the laptop. Only problem is that you cant choose language to any other than what the disk is.

Unless you have the ultimate edition. Then you can change the language I think.

I dont think all the language packs will fit on a single DVD. Its quite many files per language

I have a copy of Ultimate and it's only a single DVD disc..

I ordered the laptop after it was configured for a finnish retailer, so no problems there for me. They just emailed me today and told that i cannot start the computer if i want to return it.

I'm just worried about the fan running all the time.. Though i'm willing to buy a good notebook cooler and update the bios.. I just don't like the thought of using the laptop in my lap and the fan is running constantly on and off. :(

    That don't sound right...
If you don't activate the Windows License there should be no problems to return it afterwards. I don't know the consumer rights in Finland. But here in Denmark we have 14 day return policy on everything bought on the internet.

And that's also with fully customized items just like this laptops?
In The Netherlands you can't bring items back that are fully customized for 1 particular person...

But in this case the product isn't customized for me. It is a stock product from the shop, therefore it isn't my problem. :) It would be a different matter if i had ordered the laptop from Zepto with them being the middle man.

I've tried asking the local consumer department about this but i can't get in touch with them.

BTW i placed my order a week ago and it hasn't still left their shop though the product was in their warehouse already. :p

Yep that for all things bought on the internet. Because we as consumers can't investigate the condition of the item we buy, there is a 14 day return policy on everything bought on the internet here in our consumer heaven of Denmark.
