I was having a number of problems with my new machine and running BF2. Unless i have all the settings turned right down, it seems to render things plain wrongly. In certain directions on certain maps, all that appears on screen is a mass of black or beige triangles.
Then i found this thread, with people with the same model and the exact same problems. This thread includes screenshots.

Is there anyone else here, Juan for example, that has this notebook and bf2 and is experiencing the same problems? so far there are three of us, i wonder if it is an across the board problem.
It only occurs in BF2, all other games work beautifully. I can play counters strike at native res, all details and filtering settings etc, everything, on full, and still it plays smooth as silk. Just keen to track down whats causing the problem, 3rd party drivers form all manner of time scales haven't fixed it. Hopefully the new battlefield patch will. Stupid buggy game.

no video issues phil, it looks great, the only problem I have when playing online im getting dropped just as the game starts
Im using the 84.00 Driver. -
Phil and juan ker, as i posted somewhere in the big thread there is a problem with BF2, and the geforce 7600 series with 512MB VRAM. It's driver related in some sense that it sees the card different than it is. All you basically have to do is run down the lighting to low. Then it should work fine.
However we are in contact with nvidia to solve the issue so that you can run at the highest settings. However it is still unclear if nvidia can solve the problem and when.
Our tested settings where we found the problem is 1024x768 - all sub settings at high.
check your lighting at low and it should work fine.
Please remember this is not related to the Notebook, as you also say everything else works fine. It is a compatability issue between nvidia and EA games BF2.
BTW the problem is also apparent in GRAW and Oblivion -
yep just noticed this bug it makes the game unplayable and its the only game I really love.
wonders why zepto use 512mb when its been proven it doesnt give u any real benefit -
sorry double post

Can the owners of zeptos confirm that turning the lighting down to low fixes the problem?
I was pretty sure of getting a zepto but BF2 is one of the main games I would be playing and if it causes that kinds of problems, well.... I used to play BF2 a LOT about a while ago all on low so turning down the lighting setting doesn't bother me in the slightest
, as long as it fixes the glitch.
-
like i said in the first post, with everything set on low in BF2 i havent noticed any problems.
I appreciate that its not zepto's problem, and that realistically nothing can be done, its just such a shame when the machine is so capable and can make all my other games look so pretty. and bf2 is my favourite too.
dont worry kris88, you will definately be able to play it, just likely with all the bells and whistles turned off.
with a bit of luck, either the new battlefield patch or a new driver can fix it
* I've run lots of 3rd party driver from the site i linkd to above, but nothing fixed it, and the benchmrk scores actually dropped from 2200 on the 84.00 driver to below 1800 on som of the others - as a general rule, i think default is the way to go
** juan, try turning off AA, that sorted out the server drops for me -
my server drops were due to wifi, when I connect via ethernet im fine, I have bf2 1.4 beta 2 set to 1280x768 using the command line, with lighting set to low when it happens

Phil kempo, just to follow up, we havent really taken the position that nothing can be done, we are actually working on a specific video bios, which would let the driver see the card differently in some game, so that the nvidia driver adopts a "working" card...
-
btw. 512MB memory buffer, does have its uses in High res AA applications, but correct it is definately also a selling feature.
-
-
well no reason to be dishonest
- its a hard fact to hide, cause who wouldnt buy a notebook with a 512MB frame buffer if it was the same price as the 256MB one
-
+1 for the honesty, Zepto owns all.
Zepto znote 6214w and BF2
