I've been using my 6214w mainly for programming, and now that I've moved into uni halls I've also been using it for movie watching and gaming. I've just noticed that the screen's viewing angles are actually quite crap: you have to be dead inline vertically with it and horizontally within, say, a 30 degree angle from it to be able to get a good enough picture (which makes movie viewing for more than one tough). Has anyone else got terrible bleeding horizontally? (I have the glossy version) I'm going to uni now so I'll take a picture later to see if everybody else has a similar screen, because it just doesn't seem good enough to be sold. Other than the screen, I think the laptop is excellent, amazing in fact, if only the screen were better...

I would say the horizontal viewing angles are not too bad but the vertical viewing angles are below average. Light leakage for me isnt much of an issue with just a bit at the bottom of the screen but not enough to put me off.

Cheers for the reply, do you have the glossy screen too? Here's 3 pictures: the first is a dead-on view, with light leakage at the bottom. The second is the camera moved slightly higher, a huge difference! And the third is moved to the left, note that the colours start to become inversed as the white zepto writing becomes black and the black background becomes white.

The pictures are slightly exaggerated, but its still pretty bad. Sorry for the poor quality, only got a camera phone here at uni!

when did you buy your znotes? I've read that they changed screens a while ago in some forum. Could anyone from Zepto confirm/deny this?

My friend's 6014W has an extremely crappy screen. Almost made me not wanting to buy a znote ever again

I'm using a MSI s270 at the moment, which is crappier hardware-wise (see sig), but the viewing angles on this one are great. I can't tell any difference no matter where I stand.

That's one thing that's gonna suck getting used to when getting a new 6214...

I brought mine around august-september time. I've got the glossy screen, but its just terrible. Does everybody elses look like mine in the picture? Trying to play Splinter Cell Double Agent and cant see a **** thing because its a dark game and the screen cant handle dark images well, everything dark looks the same and half the screen looks like in the pictures.

Has the screen always looked like that for you, Rajveer? I'm just wondering why you never mentioned anything to Zepto right when you got it, or looked to return it if you were so dissatisfied with the screen.

Yep always looked like this, I havent really noticed it until I moved to university halls (last year) because my primary computer is at home and I've just started using my laptop for dvd and game playing. It's good when sitting infront of it for vivid colours, but dark images are terrible at any angle :(

Is the matte screen any better? I read a review where the reviewer said the backlight bleed was minimal, but he had the matte screen. Would it be possible to change the screen on my 6214w, or would it not be worth it?

On the 6014W that I saw crappy viewing angles (my friend's comp) the screen was matte.. I don't think it matters. Matte might actually be worse

That's a shame. I really like what the 6214W offers. I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with the screen. It's such an important part of the notebook experience.

I have the matte version and I bought my Z around the same time as yours. Received mid-sept '06.

Personnally I haven't noticed any leakage problems. At first I thought I had some on the top & bottom of the screen but it turned out to be the Zepto Wallpaper that was like that lol.

I think you should ask Zepto if they can do anything for you, it's still under warranty.

Chrisyano I dont think you have to worry

The screen isn't that bad, it's just the ONLY thing worth complaining about concerning the 6214, which makes it an easy target :)

That's good to hear. I'm glad to know you're happy with it overall. I wish Zepto's were available in the US :).

Well.. Now that I got my new 6214W I can say that the viewing angles are very poor

I've gotten so used to my temporary notebook (MSI s270), which had a perfect screen (no matter from what angle I viewed, there was no darker/brighter spots, or anything at all to complain about)

The 6214 screen really is crap

I might actually not buy a zepto notebook the next time just because of this

insats - Is there any chance you could post some pictures please? I've been looking at the 6214 but am a bit concerned about the more recent reports on the screen.

I can see what I can do

It's not about bright/dark spots or anything, it's just that you have to be in an exact angle in front of it for everything to look normal

If you tilt your head up it will get lighter, and vice versa

I really love my matte screen on my 6214W, the viewing angles are really great from the sides, full 180 degrees. From above its not that great but not so much that it bothers me.
