I know this is mostly a matter of opinion but which is best for this computer? XP or Vista (which vista in that case)

As far as the information i have goes, XP is most suited for the computer, what pros/cons do the two have on the computer, anyone know? :)

My intentions are to work with graphics, school and possibly a few games.

There is full driver support for both operating systems. Vista allows you to use Turbo Memory and other Vista improvements such as SuperFetch help the computer run more smoothly if it has plenty (minimum 2GB) of RAM.

At the moment I've got my 6024W running dual boot. I feel that Vista (with eye candy disabled) runs more smoothly than XP but I need XP because I have some programs which won't work with Vista (I.m planning to explore VMware so I can have XP running inside Vista).

The deciding factors are (a) do you want to future-proof yourself and (b) does anything you want to run have Vista compatibility problems.

I wouldn't recommend both Vista and XP unless it is really necessary -you are just adding to Microsoft profits.

    Hmm, point way off topic.

It should be twisted into this: Think off what you need from your laptop. Most modern os can fulfil what you need.
MS and especially Apple has put a great effort into making the choices for you, so you you'll often get an integrated solution, where as a 'nix os want you to make the choices and get what you want.

If you want gaming, XP is the way to go. But then again, a laptop might not be powerfull enough.

I like vista and even though some resources are used be aero and the sidebar, I prefer it since the 6224w (my case 6234w) is capable of running it smoothly.

Oh, and I got my legal vista though msdn academy, life as a student ain't bad.

Having both seems like a waste... Vista is obviously the flasier and more stylish alternative but it always seems to give you that one extra bugg that you never get on XP :p

I say it's stupid to by an XP license seeing that it's destined to be replaced by Vista in short term.
Plus Vista isn't that bugged and many efforts are being made to reduce the known bugs.

I say go for Vista right now instead of buying XP and waiting 3 months before having to switch to Vista for one reason or another. (save time and money)

Well i don't intend to buy it as i already have a copy of both, its not really a question of price or so, i just want to use what's best for the lappie :) I might go with vista anyway though since i use XP on my stationary so i can always just do whatever doesn't work on Vista on that computer instead.

    Now for the newbie question, 32 or 64? I'm guessing 64 with a nice 8600 GT? :)

I would say vista. mainly becuase hibernation and sleep actually works under vista. wheras in XP its totally rubbish.

that said vista can be annoying with application compatiblity. for instance I can't get emule working at all. and I had endless trouble just installing flash player. but having a lapop that sleeps for days and wakes up in seconds makes it for me....

Ninjasmith... strange I have no problems with Emule which is actually working better than it was under xp and same thing with Flashplayer.
What doesn't work with Emule ? Have u installed the latest version? Maybe you need to try and deactivate the vista firewall...

I made a fair choice to both XP and Vista! I installed XP and used a Vista theme :) Got the 6224 yesterday and it is working perfectly, the second good buy from zepto, my brother recently bought a lappie from them too :)
