I have a new Hel80 purchased through IBUYPOWER-Battalion model. I am using XP Pro SP2. Things appear to be working well with only one issue. When the laptop tries to enter standby mode I get the following error message :

"The device driver for the agere systems hda modem device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persist you may need to update this driver."

I have checked the drivers for this modem and they are the newest ones available. If I disable the modem in device manager the laptop will go into standby like it should. I do use the modem sometimes and would prefer not to have to disable it. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Go into device manager, double click the modem, click power management, then unclick allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.

Hopefully that will help you out.

Thanks for your response, however when I go into device manager and double click the modem there is no mention of power management on any of the tabs.

Hmm.. sounds like you have the wrong driver.
    I've got: 2.1.63.0 from Agere 12/12/2005

Should be from the bizcom site, but I could get it to you if you need it.

I checked the driver date and number it is exactly the same as the one you listed. Can you post a screenshot of the tab you are referring to? Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Maybe you need to do a nice uninstall / reinstall of the modem?

Had not thought of that since device manager was reporting "this device is working properly". Thanks very much for your help and patience. After an uninstall and reinstall I now have the device manager tab with the power management option, and standby is working correctly.
