my startup enthusiasm about the 6224 is starting to get diminshed a little bit by all of the small problems I'm getting... here is another one:

the atheros wlan card is acting very strange - when running on batteries it's never present, even from the device manager, and when working on dc plug it's sometimes here, sometimes not... anybody has any suggestions?

I would suspect the power management. First check Atheros for a newer driver than that provided by Zepto and install it if available.

Then check (1) the card properties in Device Manager and (ii) the Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced power options. I suspect that maximum power savings may be interpreted as off.

Or if on Vista - In Properties fore the WLAN card, make sure that the tick is cleared from "allow the computer to turn the card off to conserve power"... Or similar to that ( I'm on a danish machine right now ;) )

things are getting worse - now it wouln't show the wireless even when the notbook is plugged. I tried adding a new hardware and select the atheros driver... you can see on the attachment what happens. my guess is that the pc knows about the wireless, but just wouldn't show it in device manager for some reason and now it conflicts with the newly installed driver. when I click on properties it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
    (i'm using XP)
    any suggestions are welcomed :)

Does what is shown in Device Manager depend on the position of of the hardware wireless switch (next to the heat sink fan outlet)?

Does the left light on the front panel come on when the wireless switch is in the forward position?

no, the switch has no effect... when I was purchasing the laptop, from zepto told me that if I choose the zepto card the hardware switch wouldn't work.
otherwise yes - the light is on when the switch is forward.
