Geek Squad at Best Buy can do it for you, or any local computer shop. The RAM is a pretty easy DIY thing though. You can go to Crucial, run the scanner and they'll tell you what to buy.

Most notebooks have a access panel on the back. Depending on model you may have 1 or 2 memory slots. Most case if you have 2 slots you need to populate both with matching chips. Reqired for dual channel support. If you mis match you cut your speed to half. But some require removing the keyboard.
The same is for the harddrive. My had a cover covering alnost 1/2 the back. here was ony 2 screws holding it in place. If you want to do a clean install with windows you are good to go. If you want to clone your drive to the new one, it must be removed an installed into a desktop. Then they run clone software which generally comes with the harddrive. Re-install the new drive and good to go. MS XP may complain about the new harddrive requiring a call to MS. I had to do that when I replaced both in mine. 5 min with MS tech, all done. -
What model is it?

It is the 3715-eh1 series

RAM is the easiest upgrade out there, like noted, remove a panel in most cases and snap it in. I didn't look at your model specifically, but if you look on the bottom you'll probably find a panel with a screw or two. Feel free to take a look in there so you can see what it's like.

I know on some Averatecs you have to take the case off to access the hard drive which is a no-no for the warranty.

I figured out how to remove and put memory in but I read up top^^^ that i will only get half the memory if I buy a new memory card.

Yeah my 2155 had to be dissassembled to do the cpu and ram upgrade. It took 30 mins from start to finish, but I wouldnt recomend this to the inexperienced. For my model you remove the 7 or 9 screws on the bottom, then remove the power button panel near the lcd, then remove the touchpad panel and then the keyboard(tricky connector). Then you are able to do ram, HDD, dvd, and wifi. To do the cpu upgrade youll need to remove another panel which has tiny intricate screws.
SO as you can see its not user freindly like many laptops Ive owned in the past. -
I would avoid the Hitachi 7200 rpm drives as I had one in my 3150 and it burnt out in less than 2 years. Too hot for these machines.
averatec memory and hard drive upgrades.
