Hello everyone, hope to get some help. I an currently working on trying to repair a friend's laptop and am kind of stuck. The laptop is the 6130hs-20 model. I suspect it had a heat issue as my friend told me it shut down periodically to a blak screen. I followed the instructions on how to clean the laptop(dust it) and then apply thermal paste. Worked great so thank you for those.

I was hoping this would also fix the USB proble. Here's what is happening. I will boot up the laptop and sometimes the usb device( in this case a logitech wired mouse) will operate just fine. Then for no apparent reason it stops working and then I get the unknown usb device message. I will attempt to re-plug the usb and I get the same message.

I have tried to update the usb drivers from Averatec's website, but apparently they are the same drivers. I know the mouse works as I tested it on another laptop. I have deleted all of the usb items in device manager and then restarted the computr in a hope that this would re-install the drivers. No change. I have also checked per some solutions to look for a power saving mode and turn it off for the root hub, but the laptop doesn't appear to have that feature.

My fear is that it is a mobo failure but I'm not sure how to check at this point. Any ideas at this point would be great.

This is running winxp home with sp2. I have what I assume to be the most current drivers. The rest is a standard version for ram and hard drive.

I also have that model, and the same thing happened to me. So thats when i took it in to get repaired (also to get the screen and case replaced). The local tech that examined it, confirmed my problems, but when it was sent, all they changed was the case :(. Since i got it back, the usb ports have seemed to work consistently. But i also barely use it with my ibook and desktop around. So i can't suggest much, but my thoughts were also that it could be the mobo. But they didn't change that. (unless they did it secretly)
