does it matter what brand of battery i get? or does it have to be the same one that came with the laptop?

changing the cmos battery is really pretty basic (read, easy). I dont have the bac of mine apart, so i couldnt tell you what card is in the way..although i believe its the wifi card. If thats the case, then just gently push the clips until the cards pops free, tilt it towards you to about a 45 degree angle and you can remove it. Then just replace the battery and reverse the steps to put the card back in.

I would also highly recomend you ground yourself befor touching anything in the case, so you dont pass static onto the board or components. To do this, just touch a faucet...they are normally grounded.

    Good luck!

i changed the battery. everything seems normal. i measured the old cmos battery and it came up with approximately 2.8v. the new one is about a 3.1v.
