I've been searching and tring to find the best way to install the newer bios for my compal FL90 and In my opinion the safest way for me to do it would be to install my XP pro full ver.( first removing my Vista full OS in this compal) and then download the bios 1.16, use the Phonix WINPHLASH.exe program and put in the the extracted >JFT02116.WPH and hit Flash bios and IMO should work, I haven't done this but it seems like a foolproof way, I've tested this in a XP OS notebook,

someone mentioned you could do this in vista but the pheonix program isn't compatible with vista

I know it's a lot of work formatting but I don't want to brick my notebook either!

CAN I GET SOME OPINIONS ON THIS !!!!

    WILL THIS WORK ? :) :) :D

It will probably work, but why are you making your life so miserable. We have given the procedure to do it with a bootable USB drive, fast and easy and if your laptop throw up 1.16, then restart the whole process with another known working version.

    What si your current version?

RePaRaQu did it gradually, from 1.12 to 1.13, to 1.14....1.16, you may be want to do that.

I did it directly from 1.10 to 1.16 and my laptop is working perfectly.

to make sure your mainboard is working fine with the new added support for the Penryn and to be compatible with other adjusted features is say upgrade step by step.
My new notebook is running fine with 1.16 and my older one also.
But i upgraded my older notebook BTO 15W25+ (Compal IFL90) from version 1.06 to 1.16 by going step by step and I had my crisis bios bootabel usb-stick ready just in case a bad flash.

What do you call "crisis" bios bootable-stick.....? Is it the same USB with a known working BIOS in it?

I was asking the question because Compal site has a very different crisis tool and process than just using an USB flasing or installing a new BIOS. I think both methods should work well, but the Compal crisis tool re-uses what it was on your HDD before.
