I've had my 6625WD for a while now, and I noticed it makes a very soft, almost cricket-like sound about every 5 seconds. It usually 'chirps' 5 times in rapid succession. You can't really hear it until you plug in headphones, but it's audible on recordings. It's volume doesn't change if I raise the audio volume.
I can also SEE it when I look at my laptop through my camera. There are little flashes of light in sync with the chirping.
It becomes less frequent and less audible when I turn the screen off, but it's still there. AC or battery doesn't make a difference. Neither does wifi on or off (I always use wireless). Same with removing any peripherals. It is different from the regular noise that you hear when maximizing windows and such.
Any idea what it might be?
[Update]
Upon re-examination with the camera I can see the light is being produced by the infrared sensor on the front of the laptop. Is there a way to turn it off?
[Update]
I got it. I disabled the Infrared service, and the IrDA fast infared port in the Device Manager, and it stopped flashing and making noise. I guess that makes this topic closed.Maybe it will be useful to someone else.

you can allso turn off CIR & FIR devices in the BIOS to completely eliminate the IR noise
