I just bought a compal hgl 30 only 3 days ago from Milestonepc.com. I bought a display model, since it was the last one there, and I had driven through some icy conditions for 2 hours to get it.

Today, I dropped it by accident when I slipped on some ice, and cracked the latch on the computer screen. The screen still works fine, but the latch dosen't spring closed anymore. :(

The hard drive seems to be giving me some writing issues, and I am getting weird windows errors (windows wont close properly, the start menu and desktop disappear while msn still runs fine). This was happening before i dropped it.

I have an anti virus, and I have checked for any kind of malware, and that dosent seem to be an issue.

Can I return it? Is it covered by the warranty?

Can I at least go back and get a new hard drive since this one was clearly screwed up while on display? Please let me know

Why aren't you asking Milestone PC directly? ;)

well as I said, its a hassle to drive to the place (i have to bum rides off my friends). More importantly it is run by 4 asian guys. They were very helpful and honest when I was at the store.

But I know from past experience that I am very bad at understanding even the slightest accent over the phone. They speak English very well, but when I phoned a week ago to see if the HGL30 was in stock, I could not understand what they were saying and I had to get a friend to ask for me. I am asking you guys because I don't want to drive all the way down there to find out that it can't be returned.

Here are some pictures. The second picture was supposed to show the small crack on the lid, but it is hard to focus the camera to get good quality.

They have an e-mail if understanding them is difficult for you. I know one of the milestone PC guys hangs around here, and they at least type as well as the rest of us... *not sure if that speaks well of them, or bad of us :D

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this...

You will most likely not be able to return the drive after the notebooks crunch into the ground unless you have previously mentioned this to them. Thats just me talking from my years of being a technician. However.. that doesn't mean those guys don't pull some magic out of a hat and help you out.. I've seen miracles before (and generosity from all the resellers that interact on these forums).. and I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF CUSTOMER SERVICE! I BELIEVE!! I BELIEVE!!! /end crazyness

I gave phoning them another shot... either thier phone sucks, or I've got some kind of cancer in my brain.

Anyway the guy said that I could get it repaired, but I would have to spend money. Whether the cost was for the repair, or for sending it in the mail, I don't know, because I couldn't understand. I guess this experience tells me one thing though, I wouldn't last a minute in a call center.

Perhaps a quick email or even a private message to MilestonePC.com here at NBR would get you answers to your question.

I am also skeptical about being able to get replacements under warranty--but you never know and it doesn't hurt to ask.

yeah I can't return it under warranty... oh well. I looked up replacing the plastic cover, and with shipping and everything, it would run me about 100 CDN. Ive done some fiddling with the crack, and the latch works fine now, so its mostly cosmetic (which I could care less about). Thanks for the comments though, this forum is awesome :D
