    I had the same problem.
Here's how I solved it. I noticed my laptop froze only when the volume was too high. While listening to music, playing games etc.
So I simply use headphones now, and never had any other freezing!
That might solve it for you, but it might be another problem.
    Hope that helps :)

Pureknight may be right, but a million other things can cause freezing. If his suggestion doesn't work (I hope it does), try the other simple fixes: run malware scans, blow out the vents in your machines, make sure your RAM is properly seated (you can also run MemTest), uninstall any newly installed apps and/or peripherals one at a time. Finally, check your Event Viewer - sometimes you can get a hint as to what's going on, at least.

The page file is a section of your hard drive that windows uses as quick short term memory (sort of virtual ram) if at times you have a lot of processes running your system can be starving for memory. If your page file is too small it cause system to freeze until your ram and page file refills.

To check the size go to the control panel/system in the system properties window select the advanced tab at the top, in the advance window in the box that says performance (usually the top box) click the radio button that says settings. A new window should popup saying Performance Settings select the advanced tab at the top. In this new advanced page you should see the size of you page file in the lowest box with a button underneath that says change. Check the size and post it here.

"Controlled by system" sounds like you are using vista. Controlled by system from my experience doesn't work especially if you're a multitasker (like me) it fluctuates to much, increases when needed or at least after your os realizes its needed.
For vista I would recommend a minimum of 2gb since most vista notebooks usually have at least 60 processes running. I have my range set to 2048-3076 on 2 gateway laptops running vista been smooth sailing since.Mine is another story.

    Hope this helps.
