I checked the AMD website and it said that if PowerNow was installed/enabled, I would see it as an option in the power choices dialog.
It's not there and I can't find an entry in BIOS. I do have the latest driver for the Turion chip, but I have to uninstall the current driver before installing the new one, and since I've never done that before, I'm a tad nervous. Normally I wouldn't care, but like most people I haven't much faith in the recovery partition and don't want to totally wreck my system! OK, I could switch to Linux, but still... Can anyone help?

PowerNow for Windows XP is automatically handled by the driver and there is no user control available as in Win 98. All you need for PowerNow to be working is the AMD processor driver and set the laptop power options to either Portable/Laptop or Max Battery. The always On power scheme disables it.

once you install the driver, you have control of it in the powermanagement.
Right click on the desktop
Then Properties
Then Screensaver
Then Power....
On Power Schemes you have various choices.
You can set it to Portable.Laptop. (Power Now)
Always On (No Power Now)
The other settings can just make since once you read them.
Anything with Max Battery or Minimal Battery use will have Power Now tech.
Make sure Power Now is enabled on the bios.
Install the new drivers and you should be fine. -
Great, thanks. And there will be no repercussions if I uninstall the current driver in order to install the latest version?
