Just to be totally clear on this issue:

No one has been able to 'fix' the CPU fan issue with this laptop right? By fix i mean get the fan to stay on constantly at its slowest speed, or to make the fan more gradual when it turns on, rather than full speed for 15 seconds. To my understanding, Speedfan does not detect this laptop's chip set (yet).

I have flashed my BIOS, but that hasn't really helped the problem.

Also, for anyone who has under volted this processor (intel T5500), can you tell me what voltages you've used? And as well, would arctic silver compound help keep the temp (and fan usage) down significantly?

I have a T5500, and I run undervolted using RMclock's lowest settings. .95v is lowest... have artic silver 5... my fan is hardly ever on / noticable, even when gaming..

I have the HEL80--and I've heard that the newer BIOSes have reduced some of the fan activity. Can't say that I've heard the same thing about HGL30 BIOS updates though.

As far as undervolting the CPU--I let the program (be it NHC or RM Clock) set the voltages on its own. I don't manually set them myself. When it pulls back on the CPU's voltage though--there is a significant decrease in fan noise on my system. It seems to either be off or running constantly at a very low speed.

I also have Artic Silver 5...but I don't know if having it would reduce the fan activity or not. I think external factors like room temperature may have more impact.

nuts, i guess ill wait till the next speedfan version comes out. Something else I've noticed: If i view my cpu information on RM clock, it tells me the temperatures of the cores, but NHC dosen't pick it up at all. Am I missing something?

You're not missing anything. NHC doesn't seem to be able to read CPU temps on Compals. Core Temp and RM Clock are the two that I have that read my CPU temps.

oooh yes i remember reading one of your posts saying you were going to try that out. **** that looks cool, maybe i should crack out the soldering iron... or not, that would void my warranty for sure.

you may not notice it at first, but there is a difference with the bios flash. it may still cycle full blast on and off for 15seconds at a time for a couple cycles, but eventually it realizes it is doing that and gradually lowers from full blast to medium to low for a good while. I also found that updating my video drivers from the stock drivers (that didn't have powermizer) to laptopvideo2go 84.69s changed my GPU temp control, which in conjunction with CPU temp control makes the fan come on low and stay there when you're just doing non intensive tasks.

I put on the 84.26 drivers... does it still have better GPU temperature control? or was it updated in that patch you have?

still better. All the laptopvideo2go drivers have better gpu temp control. i found with stock drivers that the GPU would get up to 68C idle before the fan kicked on to push it back down to 58, but with laptopvide2go it always idles around 53-54

I'm actually using the laptopvideo2go 91 series drivers (whatever their WGA approved version is), and those seem to keep the temperatures very controlled, and they still run all games and such wonderfully. Mmmm, C&C3...
