    Hi,

Trying to compare mine if it's okay, a lot, or a little.

Assuming clean fans and clean heatsinks,

    Please post:

    Your CPU variant
Your 2D CPU ~temperatures (normal web browsing, some idle IMs in back etc)
Your 2D GPU ~temperatures (as above)
Your thermalpaste compound solution (standard, AS5, liquidmetal, etc)
    Your OS
Your exact model (if known, for example mine's CHEL80945PM2)

Cheers and thanks for info, trying to compare how far out I am :)

    Btw, mine are:

    T5500 C2D 1.66Ghz
45-50C (usually one is cooler, so the cooler one oscillates about 44 and the hotter about 46-47, up to 50/52 respectively, if the fan sleeps for a wee bit)
    40-42C
    liquidmetal
    Linux 2.6.21-viper
    CHEL80945PM2

The model, It's on the box or inside on a sticker, in my case there's one under the battery.

Does the fan kick in at all for you in 2D? I think your gpu is pretty hot; I have mine splattered with liquidmetal and it does the job nicely on the gpu as you have seen above, but the cpu seems still awkwardly hot for me. I think I might've tossed the heatpipe/copper heatsink, which is what I'm trying to find out with these results too, dunno how I would go on about doing so tho.

As regards heat compound, had you had anything else than standard, you'd probably know.

I'm concidering doing two things now, going and buying a new heatpipe/sink for the gpu and maybe a new fan. I'll check the prices tho, if it's expensive I might just skip it for now ;) Hence the question here. The fan's been quite loud for me but ultimately, I'd just like it to not run at all.

    2d = desktop, applications; not 3d - games/ rendering/3d applications
    2d is also idle

yes. and the model is from the box or from the computer itself, in my case there's a sticker underneath the battery component.

Come on people, more results please! ;) Preferably someone with AS5 or liquidmetal

    T7400 2.13 GHz
Tested with x264 with 10 threads, meaning 100% load and using cpu capabilities: MMX MMXEXT SSE SSE2 SSSE3.
    Before fan cleaning: 92°
    After fan cleaning: 69°
Wasn't cleaned since I bought it last October, but was getting out of hand, could bake an egg on the metal on the left side, now it is as cool as ever.
There was a massive amount of cluttered hair and dust on both the intake and outlet grills.
I advise anyone to clean their fans.

    Idle:
    CPU: 42°
    GPU: 36°

That's pretty cool. I'd love my CPU to be at 42-45... and it's even a slower version compared to yours! (T5500) It's amazing how you get so little heat :/

    What OS are you using?

Mine keeps the bloody fans on almost all the time when just browsing and doing some torrents in the back, it's ridiculous and way annoying to be honest. Had the fans been a bit quitere I wouldn't mind but the cpu fan is really loud.

    Anyone else? ;)

I'm using Windows XP Pro 32bit and RMClock.
What's your room temperature? That has a lot of effect on the measured CPU temperature.

How did you clean your laptop? Did you open it up completely or did you only blow compressed air through the intake/outlet grills?

oh aye I know tho I don't directly live in the tropics so it shouldn't be that much of an issue. About 22-25 degrees centigrate where I'm staying.

Is that temperature you mentioned on idle (42) a temperature with fans off or on ? If that's just plain idle, with idle fans, then congrats man... I get ~51-54 watching a film and doing some torrents in the back. That's with fans on - with them off it'd prolly be about 60-65....

    Unbelievable ;)

Just took off the plastic above the fan and the fan itself and used my vacuum cleaner on the intake and outlet grills and on the fan itself.

In idle it fluctuates between 42-45:
Fan on for 20 secs 45->42 very fast.
Fan off for 3 mins 42->45 very slowly.
