Hi everyone. My CL56 (Hypersonic Aviator CX5) developed a strange problem yesterday. It powers on and displays the basic BIOS POST -- i.e., listing of RAM, drives, etc -- then the screen blanks and the system stalls. I have the new BIOS so the WLAN LED should light up if it was just a display problem (but doesn't).

I'm assuming a bad mobo or cpu but the fact that the system starts and displays anything at all is very wierd. I shorted the CMOS reset jumper and that appears to have worked (had the logo off at startup and its now displayed again) but no change in my problem.

So... anyone seen this problem before? Maybe suggestions for a repair shop or source for parts since I believe the CL56 is now discontinued?

    Thanks,
    -pjk

You are correct about the CL56 being discontinued. Which reseller did you buy it from? I'd start with them as they'd be best qualified to help you troubleshoot this issue.

And did this problem only occur after you upgraded your BIOS?

    Good luck to you.

You should contact Hypersonic's tech support during business hours. They will be able to help you.

*shamefully peeks around the corner* LOL, he mentioned Hypersonic and I still managed to ask whom he bought it from.

I filed a support request with Hypersonic yesterday. Since the warrantee is long since over, I kinda hoped someone else had this problem and had a sneaky, cheap fix.

I updated the BIOS some months ago. The power adapter has been wonky for a few weeks as well. I bought a replacement but either adapter worked only from a few angles and occaisionally would report a disconnect and the two green LED's would flash although not at exactly the same time, first one would go off then the second would go off, then the first would go on, etc...

    Thanks for the quick responses!

It's too bad about your warranty being expired. I hope you can get this issue resolved. Is getting a new system out of the question? I'm just thinking this since repairing/replacing bad parts may justify a new purchase.

I think i had the same thing happen to my CL56. Bad news, I think your BIOS chip may be dead and beyond repair :/

I had this happen after I put my CL56 into standby by closing the lid. And upon reopenning and trying to get the screen to wake up, the computer froze and I had to do a hard reboot. After that, I got the blank screen about 5 seconds into the boot process every time.
