OK Ive read here about the agp drivers and upgrading the harddrive to 7200rpm is a vast improvement; easy enough. However I get conflicting reports on upgrading the ram. There seams to be two slots stacked for two separate ram, (I am pissed now that I have to throw some of the ram away to upgrade as there is 2 ea 256 chips already) and the manual says I can put in any chip up to 1024. Can I? will I end up with 1280? This is in conflict with several reports that this computer upgrades to 1 gb. On my last Averatec 3120 the company claimed 384 cap on memory which I did, but many in the forums upgraded to 640 no problem. I want to put in a 1 gb chip now in the top slot and end up with 1280 ram. I eventually want to end up with 2ea 1 gig chips for digital editing. I read in at least one of the dealers descriptions that this was possible but now not sure. Any experience or thoughts, suggestions?[?] ALso I see the lowest price on 1 gb pc2700 333 200pin is around 250. Any better price?

In the manual included on the machine in the Averatec folder, it states that it has a 2 gig max for system ram.

DOH! I didnt look there; as I had downloaded the manual from the site which says 1 GB. Thanks for that. I see someone else in previous posts swapped a 512 chip in both slots and it worked so thats verified. Now to find a deal on the ram.

I did upgrade to a gig RAM by using both slots and 512 mem. It works great. I'm with you as far as the confusion on the limit of a gig or 2. Since i dont have a disposable income (hence the reason I chose Averatec in the first place) I'm not willing to drop near 500 bones to see if it will or wont fly.

Something to consider if you DO have the $$$ to expermient with. Most copm stores will let you return the memory within a specific period of time. Give it a try...see if it works, and report back! Then send the memory back, and go shopping online for a killer mem price.

I got mine from newegg.com...and they have ALWAYS been the BEST online retailer. They have Kingmax mem that would work for 186.50 !!!

hey thanks dude! I will be checking out newegg. I cant decide right now what is more cost effective; the 60 g 7200 harddrive at only $175 and double my space, or the ram at $400 (and access the hard drive less)? Since I work with digital imaging I think I will eventually need the harddrive space more. I think the ram is higher now, cant figure it out, heard of it going at 150. Is it because of the demand after xmas or is the 200 pin being phased out and becoming rare? Hmmm.
